Which John Oliver bit?
Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame might be removed because people keep peeing on it.

At least it’s only pee.

[/QUOTE]I get a Hyundai commercial.
[Sees the previous link as a Super bowl one] I think it could be one of these 2:
Donald Trump
Or the one where the real costs of the wall he is proposing are explained by Oliver:
Border Wall
- And now you know where that Drumpf meme comes from, Oliver just treated Trump as Trump was treating Jon Stewart’s old family name.
I like how YouTube makes me watch an ad before they’ll let me watch an ad.
Copied the wrong link. It’s this one: https://youtu.be/DnpO_RTSNmQ
Actually it isn’t, they had to clean dog poop off of it, too.
Unfortunately, Trump doesn’t even have to be elected to do damage in the world, and not just to the Republican Party or the US’ reputation.
He starts with his nuclear ‘policy’ (and I use that term very loosely) that brings out negative comments from Japan and S. Korea. (I loved the symbolism of the President actually being at the nuclear summit at the time, as he basically called Trump an idiot.)
But now this self-appointed Alan Greenspan is trying to monkey with the markets with his talk about ‘massive recession’ and how he ‘knows Wall Street.’ Not that he cares how world markets react, except that his ego will probably be even better-fed if they do. I’d be interested to see what twisted logic his Kool-Aid drinker supporters would use to spin negative economic effects as being good things.
Yes, thanks for that link. Basically, it shows the vacuousness of many of the pro-life crowd. “It should be illegal, but the women shouldn’t be punished in any way.” As if there would be abortions if there weren’t women seeking them.
Scott Adams even pulled out the “it should be illegal to show the government doesn’t saction it, but there shouldn’t be any punishment.” Like that makes any sense. What does it mean to make something illegal? You try to stop it. But how do you stop it? You have to punish the ones who do it.
Since when is Melania allowed to have opinions? Since when does Donald care what one of his “piece[s] of ass” thinks?
See DiggitCamara’s Cracked link.
Since when has Trump ever been too moral to sink to any level? Sinking to their level is his number one response.
Can you mention which ones, please. Other than the very obvious satirical parts. Oliver has an excellent reputation so far, so I am eager to hear where you think he lied or exaggerated.
Maybe it’s a diversion while his pals at the National Enquirer attack Cruz for his five mistresses. Looking into that has led me to too many Trump supporters’ websites, but I love a good sex scandal.

NYT on Trump’s very unpromising Electoral College math: Electoral Map Is a Reality Check to Donald Trump’s Bid - The New York Times
IMHO there is a lot of irony when one notices how close Arizona is looking, a recent poll showed Trump and Clinton tied for the general election. In this very red state.
Now as the article from the NYT reports Trump expects new white male voters to come to the polls for him to win, but it seems to me that a lot of those new voters will be affected by the moves made to make voting harder, in the latest local scandal the voters for the primaries saw the voting places reduced to 1/2 of the ones available 4 years ago. Less experienced voters (the new ones Trump expects) are bound to get into more troubles.
I just went back and watched all of the Oliver clip again and most of the things he said to make Trump look bad were just clever bits of verbal legerdemain that could be excused under the label satire. Oliver made regular practice of using words spoken in one context and drawing from them ridiculous or inaccurate meanings when applied to other things in other contexts. Most of the clip contained these sorts of things and I was frankly surprised to see on rewatching it that most of the impression I got of Oliver’s factual errors came from this satirical wordplay.
Take for example Oliver’s making a big deal out of Trump’s having inherited a multimillion dollar inheritance from his father, with the clear implication being that Trump didn’t make his own fortune and owes most of his success to money he got from his father. He then goes on to acknowledge that Trump has made a lot of money, but follows up by pointing out he’s lost a lot too. Yes, it’s true that Trump did inherit many millions of dollars from his father…but in 1998, a decade after he’d already built the buildings that made him famous (Trump Tower for example), made The Art of the Deal a best-seller, and after he’d already lost his first multi-billion fortune and rebuilt it again - this latter part having been conveniently left out in Oliver’s attempt to portray Trump as an incompetent money loser.
Then we have focus being put on Trump’s bankruptcies and failed offshoot businesses like Trump Steaks and so forth, with absolutely no mention being made of the many companies and projects Trump has started and operated successfully. According to Wikipedia Trump currently employs 22,450 people, so clearly he’s been far more successful than Oliver would have one believe. (The 22,450 figure comes from the Wikipedia article on the Trump Organization, here. Anyone wishing to get an idea of the true scope of Trump’s business successes would benefit by reading this article.)
Oliver also very clearly lays the blame for one prospective tenant having lost money on a failed building that Trump licensed his name to. This is something of a gray area, admittedly, but how is Trump supposed to know that a developer who licenses his name for a building will manage to go broke before he gets it built? I would imagine that while Trump knows it’s a possibility that such things might occur, the primary reason he licenses his name and that builders pay for it is to attract business to the project once it’s completed. There really isn’t any way for Trump to be able to ride herd over his various licensees and supervise the successful completion of their projects. If there were such a way he might as well build them himself as it would involve less work and he’d have complete control. So I think it’s unfair to make Trump responsible for investors losing money on a Trump-branded project because the builder himself manages things poorly and goes broke before the project gets off the ground.
So basically most of the clip that makes fun of Trump relies on verbal sleight-of-hand to create false impressions. There were genuinely troubling issues however with Trump’s honesty and flip-flopping on issues that caused me ultimately to dismiss him as someone I’d feel comfortable with in the presidency, and this feeling has only increased as a result of some of the other things he’s been saying lately as well as some of the positions he’s been taking lately (nuclear proliferation in the Far East as but one example). Now I find myself in the uncomfortable position of having to say that if the election comes down to Trump vs. Hillary Clinton, I will have to vote for Hillary. And that’s something that a year ago I’d have bet any amount of money I would never say.
Your mention of Trump Steaks reminds me that honestly, of all the terrible things Drumpf has said, and the severe lack of knowledge and wisdom he has displayed, the QVC press conference is pretty hard to top in terms of cringeworthiness. I mean, you say sure, he’s had a few failed business ventures, but these pale in comparison to all his successes. Yet Drumpf himself is so thin-skinned and insecure, he actually had someone buy up a bunch of merchandise including steaks, print up some packaging material with “Trump _____” on it, and pretend that these products were still a going concern. Even if it were true, it would be ridiculously pathetic to roll them out like that. Given that it is *not *true, it’s just…there are no words.
