Trump's Republican primary campaign

Donald Trump doesn’t think men should change diapers, that’s the wife’s role. The man provides the funds, the woman takes care of the kids.

That’s still seen as obviously correct among his base of support, and probably won’t turn off any substantial number of people who are on the fence about him.

Saying that mainly serves to paint this man who has married a string of young supermodels and who refers to his daughters in sexualized terms as a nice, traditional family man with solid values and a strong moral center.

Wow. Ten years ago Trump said something sexist. Just the break the Cruz campaign has been looking for. Please keep us abreast of this fast moving story.

“I remember when I ordered your first diaper changed.”

Is Trump, perhaps, actually mentally ill?

I’m wondering how this will work: Ted Cruz, John Kasich join forces to stop Donald Trump

Trump can definitely spin it that the other two are scared of him. But Cruz has definitely been doing a lot better in using the system to get candidates, while Trump’s campaign is less well put together. It seems possible that Cruz and Kasich could pull it off, unless Trump’s campaign starts working really hard.

I’ve commented on this before, and perhaps I’m idiosyncratic, but if I were a potential Cruz or Kasich voter and they acted like they owned me or my vote, that would piss me right off.

Right, but if people are voting for Cruz/Kasich out of hate for Trump, then it could consolidate the vote against Trump. Let’s see. I guess more likely scenario is what you said and Trump wins.

This seems crazy to me. Maybe if Kasich withdrew and public urged all his supports to vote for Cruz, it might have a chance. But to say, “I don’t want you voters in State X to vote for me, instead vote for the other guy; but you folks in State Y, give me all you got!” is a kind of bizarre desperation.

Generally I don’t think strategic voting really works very often. Too many people either don’t hear about the plan, disagree with the plan or misunderstand the plan.

In this particular case, I think Kasich supporters want to vote for the “reasonable” candidate and I’m not sure if they would be willing to vote Cruz just to stop Trump. If they are savvy enough to get on board with strategic voting some of them must have heard of rule 40 which will not allow Kasich on the convention ballot. And while that rule can be changed, tossing more delegates to Cruz isn’t going to help it get changed. I think the most you could hope for is “strategic” Kasich supporters to stay home.

On the other side, Cruz is a rat fuck bastard and I bet he tries to get his vote out in any district he thinks he can pick up delegates despite this public statement.

So, that didn’t take long

Looking over the story, that is indeed all the two press statements ever said. You campaign there, I campaign here. So this isn’t some deal collapsing.

Ann Coulter: “I wish Trump would go back to retweeting juvenile photos of Heidi Cruz. I hate the new Manafort & Black Trump.”

(Manafort being the new campaign manager who has been giving Trump a makeover into a persona more mature and serious at least by comparison.)

Does his base feel the same way, I wonder?

I’ve seen interviews where Trump displays certain facial expressions or tics that remind me of my late father in law, in the last year of his life when the dementia was getting bad. Especially when the interviewer is asking Trump a question that requires actual thought rather than launching into talking points.

Eh I find ignorance and the desire to deflect from it more likely.

One of the insidious things about dementia is that it really can just look like someone is an asshole. Often a racist asshole. I’ll confess that I wondered (I think I posted on the dope about it) months ago if Trump had early signs of dementia. But then I figured that he’s really always been this way and I just wasn’t paying attention.

I have been wondering about this as well. I have already posted this clipof Trump on Oprah in 1988. The message is remarkably similar to today but he is so much more relaxed and articulate. Today’s Trump sounds like someone who really struggles to express his thoughts in coherent sentences.

Oh ffs, people. I don’t like Trump but you don’t think it’s a little ridiculous diagnosing dementia over the internet? Ooh, look how more articulate he was 30 yrs ago. I diagnose dementia or early stage Parkinson’s. Seek help Trump!

I think it would be very ridiculous to diagnose dementia. I don’t think it’s ridiculous at all to say that something seems off, and dementia is something that can cause similar unusual behaviors.

And considering the way Reagan’s mind went after he took office (yes, even in his first term), the possibility that Trump’s might is a very legitimate concern.
