Trump's Republican primary campaign

Which is also not abnormal in Presidents. But yes, he has all the qualities of a terrible President, although in more typical ways than one might expect. Instead of being unusually disastrous, he might be very ordinarily disastrous.

Trump would be at least 450 centibushes.

Was the medical report signed “[del]Epstien’s[/del]Trump’s Doctor?”

Centibush or Decabush?

I don’t get the hatred for the Donald. Sure, he’d be the worst President ever, but so would Carson, Cruz or Rubio – I pick the Donald as least horrid from this quartet. The GOP field this cycle is bizarrely atrocious.

Of course, Jeb!, Christie or Kasich would be bad Presidents also, but not bizarrely so – any of those three would probably be better than GWB. But these bad options have fallen way down in the polls, behind the batshit despicable. It’s as though the GOP is trying for some Guiness Record: they insist that their candidate, if elected, be unquestionably the worst President in history.

Sane Republicans (if that’s not yet oxymoronic) are well aware of this and probably getting sick to their stomachs. But the modern GOP depends on appealing to and accentuating the worst fears and stupidities of their constituents. “God cannot be mocked. Reap what you sow.”

Seriously? He’s been deliberately offensive to women and Mexicans and is trying to create fear towards islam for political gain. He was a proponent of birtherism and now he’s jumped on the incredibly dangerous anti-vax bandwagon.

The thought of him giving orders to the CDC to change public health policies or shutting down their funding in some way is terrifying to anyone with the remotest amount of education in science.

He has no moral values at all and is just pandering to the absolute lowest common denominator mouth breathers to get attention. Trump would support the moon landing conspiratards if he thought that would gain him media attention. Thats a good reason to hate him.

Yeah, pretty much this. He’s a cultivator of fear, hatred, ignorance, and bigotry. There is no statement so vile that he will not make it. He’s a very dangerous man.

There are reports that when a BLM protestor was removed from a Trump rally in Vegas, some Trump supporters shouted “Sieg Heil!” and similar. Trying to confirm - my Google fu is failing me today.

And there have been protestors at all of the candidates’ rallies, but I haven’t heard of any of them being beat up at rallies, with others in the crowd cheering it on, only at Trump rallies. Here’s a report on the rally that Gyrate is referencing:

And here’s a rally from a few weeks ago when Trump is saying he’s okay with the protestors being roughed up:

All of the Republican candidates are dangerous in many ways. For example, John Kasich is seen as nice and moderate by many, but has restricted abortion in every way possible in Ohio. And I believe all of the Republican candidates have said many hateful things. But it’s the number of things he’s saying, and the violence that he’s encouraging that’s disturbing.

But Trump is also worthy of hate because he pushes everything further. In an election without Trump, the other candidates would have to hold back more, but now with Trump, there’s nothing too outrageous that they can say.

There were thousands and thousands of them. I saw it on TV!

Mentioned in this article on the Guardian; sounds like it was an MSNBC reporter who heard this (note that the Guardian did not have corroboration):

Trump also thinks Pete Rose should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame, despite Rose’s betting on baseball - including his own team - while a manager, lying about it, and still betting recently. Is there no limit to the number of things Trump can be wrong about?: Donald Trump Comments on MLB's Decision to Uphold Pete Rose's Ban | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats, and Rumors | Bleacher Report

As much as I hate Trump, and probably largely agree with this protester, going to an opposing rally in order to disrupt it is a bullshit move. He shouldn’t be threatened or injured, but it’s still some bullshit.

I have zero problem with protestors being removed, even if they have to be physically picked up and removed. I also wouldn’t have a huge problem with Trump calling them “jealous losers” like he calls so many people who don’t agree with him. And I wouldn’t be particularly bothered by the crowd booing protestors, or cheering as they’re removed.

The troubling thing is the violence, and the vicious glee that some of the crowds have in threatening or injuring protestors, and how Trump seemingly has little issue with it.

I see where you’re coming from but I disagree. Candidates should be tested on how they handle unfriendly crowds as well as crowds of nothing but true believers. If a Trump motorcade passes through my town, I intend to give him the Nazi salute as he passes. If that’s disruptive, too bad, it’s my free speech.

I just don’t think that I would ever use my free speech to just drown out someone else’s free speech, nomatter how odious I found them to be. I think it’s cowardly and dishonest.

Your Nazi salute is fine (as much as such things can be!) as the intent, and the effect, is not to drown out.

Well, right now it is solely a contingency plan. I neither want to nor plan to leave. I have roots here. I’m just saying that if enough voters pull the handle for Trump the critical mass of decent people who keep this country mostly nice will obviously be in the minority. In other words, Trump will be the symptom, not the cause.

:smack: I had some cognitive disconnect when I phrased this post. Of course I despise Trump’s mean racist talk.

But I think we should celebrate Trump’s candidacy. For American politics it’s a godsend! I hope Trump continues to attract Republican voters and win primaries.

There is zero risk that he’ll actually become President. He’s probably topping out at 40% among the most zealous Republicans; in a general election he’d receive the most severe trouncing in history. But there’s very little chance of him winning the GOP nomination, unfortunately.

Trump holds up a mirror to the GOP; some of them will now be able to finally perceive what their Party has become. And his candidacy will leave the GOP in tatters, reducing their chances in the 2016 elections.

We’re at a political tipping point. The GOP already controls both houses of Congress, and most of the Governorships and state legislatures. GOP victory in 2016 would point to a very dismal future. But demographics are turning against the GOP; and if the Democrats can hold out in 2016, the tide may begin to turn. The 2016 election is very important. The Trump candidacy makes Democratic victory much more likely. Celebrate Trump! Encourage your crazy friends to support him.

I agree with most of what you wrote, except for the word “zero”. It’s non-zero, and that small chance is terrifying enough that I don’t think I can support this shit show.

I pretty much agree with all of this, and this is why this is such a fun election cycle so far. Yes, it’s possible that Trump will win (a very, very low possibility), but I think Rubio or Kasich or Bush would be just as bad and damaging to America (and possibly more so). So go Trump go!
