A political party is defined not by the people standing on the podium, but by the people standing in front of it.
There isn’t much about this post that I would quarrel with, other than to point out that my use of the term “brown people” originally came from the left in order to accuse Republicans of bigotry and xenophobia.
And certainly I would agree that while most Republicans are no more racist than most Democrats, and that of those who are racist most gravitate to Republicanism, the constant drumbeat from the left is that Republicans as a whole are xenophobic and hate blacks, Hispanics and Muslims.
It’s been with both amusement and consternation that I’ve watched the left in this country defend Islam tooth and nail because only a small percentage of Muslims are extremists, while at the same time merrily painting conservatives and Christians with a very broad brush when it comes to things like abortion clinic bombings, domestic terrorism and overall racism and bigotry, even going so far as to exaggerate it - as in the case of Donald Trump and his alleged misogyny toward women which was based solely on insults he made toward one specific woman he was fueding with and who had attacked him first. Not only does his behavior toward Rosie O’Donnell not apply to his overall attitudes about women, which have been exemplary in terms of him placing them in powerful executive positions in his companies, but these misogynistic attitudes he is wrongly accused of harboring are also brought to bear on his supporters. (To your credit, however, you appear not to be one of those people and I commend you for acknowledging that the average Republican is likely no more racist than the average Democrat.)
I rest my case.
Have you seen the crowd at a Trump rally?
Trump I’ll give you, and Cruz preaches a divisive message as well, although more against ideology than against a particular race or religion. Rubio on the other hand has been an inclusive candidate.
It’s with continued amusement that so many conservative Dopers appear to get their “understanding” about “the left” from right-wing radio and similar sources, rather then, you know, the many actual liberal Dopers that would be happy to answer questions.
Trump apparently tweeted that Cruz stole the Iowa caucuses somehow this morning, then deleted the tweet three minutes later.
Well, yeah, he’s the moderate.
Only in the sense that Rush is food for worms.
Yeah, his supporters have been going on about how Microsoft donated to Rubio and also made the software Iowa used. Why they would cheat to still come in third somehow escapes their comprehension.
You see?! You see?! Rubio’s not even any good at cheating! Go Trump!
Cruz is a Chevy.
Why do most threads on Islamic terrorism turn into Christian-bashing orgies?
Cite?
I really wish Twitter didn’t allow edits/deletions.
Heck, Dick Dastardly cheated to come in last place, often in situations where he would have won if he’d just kept racing along honestly.
You might nominate him but I doubt you’ll get any farther.
Any Cuban showing up in the US (not intercepted at sea) gets automatic residency after a year. No obstacle to citizenship. No immigration lawyers to pay. (Of course, Ted’s dad left before Castro rose to power–although he apparently had little problem getting in. But he didn’t bother to become a US citizen until 2005.) Immigrants from Mexico & points south have a* much* tougher time.
Many US citizens–whose ancestors moved north of That River many years ago–look far more Hispanic/Latino than pasty-faced Ted. And bigots like Sheriff Arpaio will treat them with suspicion (Do you carry proof of citizenship every time you leave the house?)
Of course, few people need a reason to dislike My Jr Senator.
[USA today has the story; there was more than one tweet:
A new election in Iowa? Yeah, they’ll love that.
I refuse to believe that an actual professional told them to go over and sit by the mating parrots statue.
It actually doesn’t allow edits, only deletions, but deleted tweets are still easily found, especially if you’re famous.
