Please note that I wrote NOT hacking a child into parts. I know my(?) Bible quite well ;).
Too late to edit: I just don’t find that special story very impressive.
Well this thread took a strange turn.
The wisdom was in knowing how his threat to do so would be received by the two complainants.
Honestly, Solomon doesn’t get much face time in the Bible. Compared to his father, Sol lived a fairly uneventful life - no adventures, no wars, just construction projects, concubines and coin. The book says he’s wise, gives an example, and moves on. What more do you want?
As for the pi thing, are you really blaming a pre-Euclidean culture for not knowing Euclidean geometry? Maybe you’ll also accuse the Temple of having lousy wi-fi service.
I’ll attempt to get the thread back on track:
Michigander here. In my opinion Governer Whitmer has shown 1000% more leadership during the CV crisis than Trump. Not that it’s surprising or shocking anymore, but his insulting nicknames like ‘“half” Whitmer’, his constant contradictions, and his self-aggrandizing behaviors, like bragging about his press conference ratings, stand out in even sharper relief during this crisis. It’s astounding and horrifying. I know presidents get an automatic, temporary popularity boost during times of crisis, but I can’t believe his behavior during this pandemic is considered acceptable at any level, let alone a majority approving of his handling of the crisis.
WTF does Solomon even matter? I’d hazard most Christians focus almost exclusively on the Pentateuch and the Gospels (and maybe a few Psalms). To the extent they look at the rest, it’s not often and not usually in much depth. So, you know…origin story plus Jesus and his new covenant and all that jazz. If a person has memorized any passage from the Bible or taught about any particular bits, it’s overwhelmingly likely it is from one of those.
But what does that even have to do with yet another example of Trump’s obvious misogyny and infantile treatment of the governor of one of the larger states in the country?
It has nothing whatsoever to do with it. However, you are wrong about what Christians focus on. Of course they emphasize the new testament (being, you know, Christian), but mainstream churches make a big effort to cover the whole of the Jewish canon too, at least in liturgy.
Trump’s morals and ethics couldn’t fill the brain of a virus.
Can we take the Bible discussion elsewhere possibly? The topic of this thread is actually of interest to me, so whenever I see a new post, I return, only to discover nothing on-topic has been contributed. TIA.
He is shitting on Washington, NY, and California, too.
He’s got a lot of shit. It spreads.
His fans… my gosh - is this really the person they want? Don’t they want someone who will be President for the whole US, not just the parts that like him? Do they think this is a good thing for a President (not a King, a President?) Do they not realize that this isn’t what happened with any other President? And what is wrong with them? Are they that morally bankrupt?
I know the answers to those questions - but it still astounds me how just banally evil and small so much of the populace seems to be.
I think that a lot of Trump’s supporters don’t expect the President to be a leader. They’ve been told repeatedly that the government doesn’t do anything, or at least not anything good, so why should it be lead? They only expect him to be a figurehead. Which would be fine (at least, less unfine) if the Presidency were in fact a figurehead position. Unfortunately for all of us who have to live in reality, however, it’s not.
Hell, it’s not even a good thing for a king. Kings have been deposed or “suddenly taken ill” for less.
I think a number of governors have done a great job. My governor in the State of Washington is generally not someone you get excited about one way or the other, but I think he has really stepped up in this crisis and shown real initiative and leadership. I am glad we have a system where if one layer of government is lacking, another can pick up the slack. It helps us get through things like a Trump presidency.
I wonder if Trump has an official taster…
You know, I read that as “TASER” the first time I read it.
I guess that begs the question: Can bronzer conduct electricity?
Yes, it absolutely is. Trumpists don’t love Trump because they can’t see him for who he is. They love him because they can.
Yeah, Trump has given them permission to be as awful as they truly are. It’s why I think his base will never abandon him, they’d have to reckon with who they are.
The gold-plated Trump Taser would be “the greatest taser ever, seriously folks, it will zap like no other” and would probably feel like a joy buzzer.
Unless your next layer is Florida (can’t cancel spring break!) or Mississippi (where the governor overrode various mayors’ shelter in place orders).
Yeah, not every state is doing so well unfortunately.
“Shelter in place” and “stick your head in the sand” do not mean the same thing.
