Trying Samuel Adams for the first time.

For what it’s worth, my favorite Sam Adams is cherry wheat, only available for a short time in the spring. Oh it is good!

I didn’t realize they did a rauchbier, too. If you like those, go to a well-stocked beer store, and you should hopefully be able to find other examples of the style. Around here, in the import section, you can often find Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier (either the Marzen or the Urbock), but also a lot of the microbreweries are riffing on that style and you might find something like Alaskan Smoked Porter (seems to be the most common) or similar.

I’m not into the more odd styles of San but its my usual go to beer. My favorites in order, Oktoberfest, Summer Ale, Winter Lager and Boston Lager. If I don’t feel like trying something new I always go back to Sam.

Tried the Maple Pecan Porter last night. Barely got through it. It’s just too sweet for my liking.

Overall I’ve liked the majority of beers in the Spring Thaw pack. I plan to get a six pack of the Irish Red and the Boston lager for sure.

The variety packs are a good idea. There’s always going to be something really good in it. Its fun trying the different flavors of beer.

You don’t need to be a member to buy alcohol at Costco.

Their winter 12 pack mixer thing was just awesome this year.

Well, a lot of things have a 5% (?) non-member surcharge. Googling suggests that this is not the case with alcohol, but sounds like you gotta go through a few hoops to get a day pass and only pay in cash.

Speaking of Sam Adams, Costco had one of theirs - Thirteenth Hour I think, a conditioned stout. Not too bad, a little sweet, but more like a port than fruit.

Yeah, I’m a sucker for variety packs for the same reason. I have my favorite beers, but it’s fun to get outside your comfort zone and try different things.

As a general rule I avoid most of their seasonal brews because I think they’re crap, but I actually look forward to the annual “LongShot” sampler. That one is fun.

Second Longshot!
