Trying to conceive - ovulation.

Ok, so, while we aren’t trying to conceive yet, I’ve started the process of getting all the blood tests and such done (no b/c for 6 years, two miscarried pregnancies) and it seems that I AM ovulating and actually was ovulating at the time of my blood test last Saturday (LH: 20 IU/L, FSH: 6IU/L, Estradiol: 1223 pmol/L).

However, this was only day 9/10 of my cycle. This is early, not scarily so, but only about 2 or 3 days after my period finished.

Anyone have any insight/positive stories/can relate?

btw, the wait time to just get a call to set up an appointment with the fertility clinic is six months, which is why I’m starting the process now.

No insight as to early ovulation, but have you been charting your cycle at all? I really like Fertility Friend for that purpose.

Good luck!

Yes I am! I’m charting my BBT on Fertility Friend and just bought an annual membership!

My understanding is that early ovulation isn’t necessarily a problem. If you have a short luteal phase (the time between ovulation and the beginning of your period) that can cause problems, though. I think optimally for conception purposes the luteal phase is supposed to be at least 10 days long.

IANADoctor, but I work with Fertility Specialists. If you have any thoughts or questions about you and your partner’s fertility, I strongly recommend you go see a doctor. In your case, start with an Ob/Gyn, and if you have ANY questions coming out of that, go see an RE - a Reproductive Endocrinologist, aka: a Fertility Specialist. Please note that OB’s are a decent place to start to ask fertility questions but they are NOT experts the way that RE’s are, so if you have any questions and even if your OB is saying “I know this stuff” you should still consider seeing an RE - better to confirm your OB’s opinion than lose ticks on your biological clock…some women wait years to see an RE because their OB is telling them everything is fine when it is not…

Your OB should be able to point you to one, or you can search online for RE’s in your local area.

I just chimed in to say I had two miscarriages in the last three years. I’m forty years old. My son was born, healthy and perfect, last May.

Good luck! You seem to be doing all that you can possibly do, so relax, and have confidence in your body. After all, you come from a ten thousand year long line of fertile women.

I am not an RE. But I’ve been through infertility hell. Early ovulation (which is my personal problem) can indeed be a huge problem. It can indicate very bad eggs and possible early menopause. Even though your FSH came back fine that doesn’t necessarily mean all is fine. You can have good FSH readings in a single month and still have serious problems. I don’t mean to scare you but my first personal sign of fertility issues was shortened cycles where I was repeatedly ovulating early. Those problems were dismissed as normal even though they were not by my OB-GYN, a fact I regret to this day.

The world of fertility is scary and full of strange, menacing words such as “luteal phase.” slowly backs away

(at least it was a free bump)

I had four pregnancies, who of which went to term (both girls).

Sending baby thoughts/prayers your way.

Love, Phil

Make sure you check your cervical mucus one or more times daily - it’s your early warning sign that ovulation is coming (allowing you to time intercourse) - a rise in temp will only confirm that ovulation has occured, by which time it’s most likely too late to catch it. Many people have good luck with OPKs as well, which can give you 24-36 hours warning.

As mentioned before, early ovulation is normally not a problem (odd time for them to have tested you though? Normally they do a day 3 and day 21 test, but may be for reasons I am not aware of). It’s late ovulation (21 days+ which can be more of a concern).

I’ve been temping for 10 months now, and now that we’ve been referred to our FS both my doctor and acupuncturist have suggested I stop temping, since it can be a double-edged sword - offering a great deal of information (ovulation date, luteal phase length, and optimal timing of intercourse), but it can be stressful waking to take the temp, worrying about whether it will stay up etc. I see it dropping 1-2 days before my period shows up so I know it’s Game Over pretty early on (11 day luteal phase).
