Trying to find John Steinbeck Quote about "Which on is the real fish?"

I was talking to someone and am trying to find a quote from John Steinbeck that I believe was in his book titled “The Log from the Sea of Cortez”.

The quote was something about when he was out fishing with a friend and pulled in a beautiful fish onto the boat and asked his friend “which is the real fish”, the one he’d just pulled into the boat that was vibrant and alive, or the one that was stuffed and mounted on the wall in his office.

Does anyone have a copy of this book or remember approximately where in the book that discussion took place? Could anyone scan the page(s) or transcribe the paragraph?

I don’t own the book and am having trouble finding access to it in the near future. If you could help me out, you would be saving me a 1.5hr drive each way to the city to find the book at the library.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Enkel

Thanks, I didn’t know you could do that there. Today I learned. I did search just for fish and didn’t see what we were talking about (or not enough to say that was the area). Maybe my mind has been going back and editing the books I read again.

Came across the introduction that discusses what they were doing. There wasn’t anything like what you saw, but one website quoted from it:
