Trying to help my friend buy his first PC

Yeah, he’s going with Gateway, mainly because his aunt and uncle bought their computer from them too. Plus it would be a bit easier for him to deal with Gateway I guess, and he’s not worried about spending a little extra money, although I can’t see why he’d waste a few hundered dollars either. Part of the problem is that he wants to get this compter ASAP, like by Wednesday, and he won’t really shop around, he just wants to get it done with.

The reason for the separate DVD and CD/RW drives is to copy CD’s easier. Othewise you’d have to copy them to the hard drive or something, right?

As for connecting the computer to his stereo, I dont’ think that will work. He’s going to have the computer in a different room. Plus all the stereo equiptment in his apartment is his roomate’s, so if he ever moves out he would have nothing. Good suggestion though.

Thanks.

DougC, the reason for the big HD is so that there is going to be another one that big in the future if its needed. Well, that’s my idea anyway, but you are right, few people have anywhere near enough software for anything bigger than 10 gigs. Unless they do dvd’.s

Anyway, Dell is nice, I would order from them, I keep up with their latest deals (Yes, I’m using one). I push two buttons & the case swings open & I can easily change anything inside it. I don’t have a deal listed right, now but they might have one soon, they are around $475 for a 2.4ghz, 20 gig HD, XP, Word, etc. Get your own memory chips & save money. No monitor.
