Both are also directly connected via a gigabit lan crossover cable. (The reason I haven’t plugged them into the router to achieve the same speeds between each other is that the router is physically too far away)
The wireless network is 192.168
The direct cable network is 169.254
I can transfer files ok between computers on the 169.254 network (as proof they are using this network the transfer speeds can reach 60mb/s)
But for some reason I can’t rdp between them. I can rdp on the 192.168 network ok so I have the computer I rdp to set up right for RDP.
Have you checked the firewall settings for the 169.254 network?
BTW 169.254 is APIPA so you might try giving them proper addresses using a different private network, e.g. 172.16.x.x, otherwise you might have to redo the firewall settings every time.
Not sure what APIPA is (I’ll google it) but they seem to always get the same IPs on the 169.254 network even when the cable has been removed and re-inserted.
ETA: It’s a shame that directx games won’t work though rdp because this 1gb connection is fast enough. My graphics card recently stopped working so rdp is the only way to see the computer until I get a replacement.
