TheLadyLion and I are rennovating the bathrooms in her townhouse and need to buy a replacement tub soon for a standard 60" long nook. Fiberglass is out as they get all grotesque looking after a while. Choice is between stamped steel or cast iron. What are the pros and cons?
Cast iron is heavier and quieter. By that I mean not tinny like an oil can when you step in it. Although with proper support that might not be an issue. I think I’ve heard that cast iron doesn’t lose heat as fast as steel. Although I’m not sure why that would be the case. Steel is lighter, easier to handle.
I’ve not noticed any appearance problems with Acrylic tubs. Are you equating acrylic with fibreglass? Most, if not all, of the whirlpool tubs are acrylic. The missus and I are entering upon construction of a new house and no one has tried to steer us away from Acrylic.
