There are two answers to the bacardi question. The presence of the bats supposedly made the land more fertile. Teir dropping produced good sugar cane. This was true for the area, so the locals considered the bat to be somewhat mystical and bring good health and such. The bat was on the label to promote sales in the area because many of the locals weren’t able to read. The bat was a safe-like symbol.
