I concur, we do that sometimes in Spain too.
You would like interpreter’s note pads for consecutive interpreting. We use some weird symbols! α means work (from the German Arbeit), αr means worker, and so on. h means president (see that it is like a chair?). A square is State, and a square with a… thingy… is member State. Lovely.

I caught the latter half of a really cool video about this today:

By that logic, the geologic Eon is the most significant. So Hadean = 1; Archean = 2; Proterozoic = 3; Phanerozoic = 4. Since the Earth is undergoing an extreme extinction event, perhaps a new Eon is in order.
Maybe, though the way that relates to the year isn’t so obvious.
The Long Now Foundation suggests that we write the year as 02022, in order to encourage long-term thinking–the idea being that we should consider how our actions now affect the year 12022.
