Tug of War with My Door.

I decided not to post this under GQ 'cause it’s kind of silly i suppose, but this has been annoying me for days now that the weather is the way it is here.

my key gets jammed in my lock as if it’s rusted in there or something which i blame on the affluent supply of rain we’ve been having and the newness of my lock and key. I have no awning, and can’t have one either. Any ideas as to what a good lubricant might be for the lock? or any suggestions as to what i can do so tomorrow when i’m playing tug of war with my door my key doesn’t break off?

Try some WD-40, available all over the place.

Hi,
If the key is having problems going in use a spray lubricant such as w-40 or Tri-flow (I get it at a bicycle shop it has teflon!). Graphite is good but it builds up inside the lock. If you live in a place of high humitity to much graphite is REALLY bad.
If the key is going in the lock real well but is real dificult to turn. The latch could be binding. The door and or door frame could be swelling and causing the latch to rub hard against the side of the strike plate (hole in door it is going into) To test this try turning the lock with the key with the door open.If it works well, the strike plate needs to be moved. ANother sure sign You need to adjust the strike plate is if you have to push or pull on the door to get your key to turn with ease.

To much information I know. Use what you can disregard the rest.

triflow, wd-40, thanx. will do.

On the other hand, if the lockset binds up even with the door open and has done it since new, you may have a pin dragging inside the lock. That would be due to a key that’s a little off and should be a straight forward fix by any decent locksmith.

You could get one of those neato lock covers… I’ve seen those, they’re made of plastic I think masterlock makes them.
