Tuning Vista for game--page file update hogging resources

I have been playing Fallout 3 on a Vista x64 machine, 4G RAM and an E8500 processor. Periodically the game slows to a crawl. I switch over to Resource Monitor and find that writes to the paging file are sucking resources. This doesn’t happen when I’m using other more mundane applications.

Are there any recommendations for tuning that can avoid this problem? Right now I just stare at Resource Monitor until the I/O rate drops back down, then resume the game normally.

This question may be too much of a special-interest question for this board but it’s usually a great first stop anyway.

How do you have your pagefile set?
