That is depressing. But not surprising.
Agreed.
It was pretty clear this morning, if not earlier, that Erdogan would win this, though narrowly. Kilicdaroglu was pretty consistently leading in the large metropolitan area of Instanbul, but Erdogan had a consistent lead overall when the conservative rural areas were figured in. That, and some help from Moscow, put Erdogan over the top. So the status quo remains, along with Erdogan’s continued opposition to Sweden joining NATO, because it would make his pal Putin sad.
What if we managed to build a country, or countries, that didn’t have rural conservative (read “reactionary”) areas?
What a wonderful world it would be. 
Then people would find new lines over which to become stupid.
