I have Vista Home Personal. Somehow wile checking out all the features I turned on Magnifier to launch on start up. I can easely close it from the task bar but cannot keep it from launching again at next start up. I have tryed everything in the control panal, Windows Defender, even the small button in the lower left corrner after hitting control, alt delete. I have even tryed system restore to no avail. Is there anything I can do short of F Disk and reinstall. I have too many programs that I’ve downloaded that would be a bitch to reinstall. Please tell me there is an easy fix I am overlooking.
Go to the Start menu and click Run… Then type in MSCONFIG and hit <Enter>. When MSCONFIG starts, click the Startup tab and locate the entry for Magnifier and uncheck it, then click OK. You may reboot at this point. In any case, the next time you restart, it should be gone. If you’re not sure which entry it is, you can take your best guess(es); there’s nothing in there you can disable which will damage anything. If you guess wrong, you may lose some functionality until you re-enable it.
The other method is usually to go through the accessories and pull up the Accessibility folder where you use the Accessibility Wizard. It is buried in the Wizard.
There is no Accessibility folder but there is an Ease of Access folder. No wizard there but Ease of Access Center has no option to disable magnifier on start. Ease of Access Center also has a Magnifier button witch launches Magnifier but still no option to dissable. I don’t even know how I got it to launch on start to begin with, it’s not the kind of thing I would choose.
What Exit, thank you I don’t know how I missed the Make the Computer easier to see link. but that did the trick.
Q.E.D., thank you as well, dissableing everything in MSCONFIG cleared everything in my system tray and vastly speeeds up my reboot and frees upresources. This should help with my games.
