Phone your boss on an unrelated topic, waft phone continually in direction of music, say “Excuse me?” lots, finally interrupt your boss to say “I’m sorry, I can’t hear you because of my cow-orker’s music. Could you shout?”
The cleaning lady comes in here on Fridays and listens to the radio while she cleans.
I don’t mind it, it’s a decent station, but the reception isn’t all that great, so there’s static coming in and out.
Static is my fingernail on the chalkboard. I…just…can’t…HANDLE…it!
It makes my physically cringe. Fuck trying to concentrate, it’s all I can do to keep from throwing that piece of shit radio out the door! (we get this space for free and she’s related to the big boss man and known for running to him at the tinest thing so I can’t really say anything to her).
She hasn’t brought the damn thing in for a couple weeks now and I think my blood pressure is slowly finding it’s way back to normal…
Yes! Yes! Yes! I would rather listen to a type of music I don’t particularly like clearly than listen to great music with static. Except opera. I would rather listen to farts, belches, and wheezes from the cube next door than opera. Luckily for me, everyone is my office is fairly quiet.
I once had a job as a file clerk. When I was hired, I and two coworkers were in basically a dungeon, but we could have a radio.
Coworkers wanted to listen to a music station that regurgitated the same songs overandoverandoverandoverandover… I would much, much rather hear talk radio than that. Asked them quite nicely if we could trade off: music in the morning and talk radio in the afternoon. They wouldn’t have it. Not because they objected to Dennis Prager or Larry Elder, but simply because they found talk radio “boring”. Well, excuse me if I’d rather hear about the issues of the day than hear “Bad Moon Rising” for the nth time.
Eventually, the office was refurbished, and we were moved to a clean, brightly lit, carpeted file room that was within earshot of the cubicle farm. So no radio. :dubious:
Hate to be the one telling you this, but probably several people at your workplace wouldn’t shed a tear if you were fired! Have some consideration for your co-workers and wear headphones.
