Turning the printed page digital?

Is there a name for a service where some takes typed pages and types them back into a computer so you have a word document, or plain text or whatever?

I tried transcription, but it seems they do audio to text…

(By the way, if you know of a company that does this, it would be greatly appreciated

I think that’s just “data entry”. If a machine does it, it’s “Optical Character Recognition”. A Google search on ‘text data entry’ (without quotation marks) turns up a bunch of companies for your consideration.

Scanning services. I believe if Kinkos will do this.

My HP print/scan/copy/faxer calls that operation “scanning a document”.

Haha, not quite. I can scan and return an image of the document easily enough, but I need to turn text on paper into editable text on my computer.

Although, as Peregrine said, some computer programs will do it for you, not sure if that’s what you meant

Thanks everybody! Peregrine’s solution paid off and I’m contascting several companies for quotes.

I’m checking on Kinko’s as well, RealityChuck, thanks!

Would this be a job for a copy typist?

No HAHA, this does what you wanted: makes an RTF document containing the text of the “scanned” document. I’ll admit it’s a poorly phrased term but it is what it is.

My brother-in-law had a typed document (he had lost the word .doc file). I scanned it and turned it back into a word doc.
