Tuscon Train Shooting caught on Camera

There was a shooting on-board AMTRAK today at the Tuscon station; apparently some DEA agents were doing inspections when one person opened fire on the train, killing a DEA agent and wounding two more. Police responded and the shooter either was killed or committed suicide.

It was caught (not the killings) by a place I visit a lot (Virtual Railfan), who has cameras around the country for us railfans. Never expected to see this on his cameras, though.

Just a little shaken that a site I use to watch trains (and I’ve ridden Amtrak a lot in my life) caught this.

Damn. I live in Tucson. Very disturbing news.

To be clear, the camera was pointed at the train and you can hear the shots fired, two fusilades, but there’s no running gun battle on the platform.

One DEA agent dead, another wounded as well as a Tucson PD officer, both seriously. The gunman barricaded himself in a bathroom and was found dead there.

I’m kind of surprised VR put it up. They have declined to put up videos of police actions – generally ejecting an unruly passenger – in the past.
