TV Binge Watch (Part 3)

Shows that take place in fictitious towns in real states

  1. King of the Hill - There is no Arlen, Texas; while fans try to parse out clues (for example, Bobby’s restaurant is in Dallas but apparently it’s a short drive from his parents’ house), Arlen does not appear to represent a specific city.
  2. Parks & Recreation - takes place in Pawnee, a fictional town in Indiana.
  3. Longmire – A neo-Western set in and around Durant, Wyoming, the fictional seat of the equally-fictional Absaroka County. Durant is heavily based on the real-life town of Buffalo, WY, which has embraced its fame and continues to host an annual Longmire Days celebration almost ten years after the show’s end.
  4. The Simpsons - The location of Springfield is intentionally kept ambiguous and contradictory clues are used to keep its location mysterious. We do know that Springfield’s state borders on Texas, California, Minnesota, and New Jersey unless it’s Ohio, Nevada, Maine, and Kentucky.
  5. That '70s Show - set in Point Place, a fictional suburb of the real city of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
  6. Roseanne and The Conners - Both are set in Lanford, Illinois, near Chicago.
  7. Newhart - Takes place at the Stratford Inn in an unnamed small town in Vermont.
  8. Gilmore Girls - Continuing the “New England inn town” theme, but this time with Connecticut.
