TV Characters That Refer To Themselves By Their First Name

Was just trying to figure this out. I was looking for a list of TV characters who refer to themselves by their own first name.

For instance on Laverne And Shirley the character Rhonda never said “I” or “Me,” she always said “Rhonda.” As in “Rhonda thinks you should ask Laverne.”

On Becker the character Bob always refered to himself as Bob and not “I” or “me.”

Of course there was the one time character on Seinfeld played by Anthony Starke, who always referred to himself as Jimmy.

Any others anyone can think of?

Elmo, of course. But that’s more because of the fact he’s a child rather than being concieted.

George Costanza would often do this, but only after he met Jimmy, who always did it.

When in character, professional wrestler The Rock always refers to himself in the third person.

I believe there’s a character on the new show “Friday Night Lights” who does this at least some of the time - or at least refers to himself by his team nickname. Smash maybe?

“Hulk smash,” you mean?

Homie the Clown from the old “In Living Color” sketches.

I vaguely remember Puck from one of the early seasons of MTV’'s Real World doing that.

Alex and Izzie rather hilariously began doing this on Grey’s Anatomy, after having met a patient who did it. I don’t think they’ve done it again in any episodes since then, though.

Not only that but he ratcheted up the pretension by calling himself “The Puck.”

How helpful of him to differentiate himself from Robin Goodfellow.

Anybody who has ever played Bob Dole on SNL. That would include Dan Ackroyd, Norm MacDonald, and some guy named Bob Dole.

In one of the Charlie’s Angels movies, there was a character named Chad who referred to himself as “The Chad.” “The Chad is unhappy…”

And then the classic, “I think The Wind just broke its leg.”

And whoever voiced Bob Dole on the Simpsons Halloween episode

Ditto “The Todd” on Scrubs.

Scruffy from Futurama talked like that
