TV Characters that you find very attractive in in a non-sexual way?

I’m currently watching one of my favorite tv shows, Rizolli & Isles. The character that I like the most on the show is not someone I find physically or sexually attractive, but his personality and overall character make him adorable to me. I am referring to Detective Vince Korsak, played by 65-year-old Bruce McGill.

I started thinking about other shows I regularly watch and identified at least one character on another show that I feel much the same about. I’ve been a Criminal Minds from the beginning (minus a boycott for several months over the firing of AJ Cook (JJ) and reducing the role of Paget Brewster (Prentiss)). From the introduction of the David Rossi (to replace Jason Gideon, who got on my damn nerves), I love his character. He is very much a father figure for most of the team and goes out of his way to be a “good guy”…a rare quality.

Anyone else have a non-sexual/physical crush on a TV character?

I call Game of Thrones “The Tyrion Show.”

Sgt Benson on SVU is very attractive in her quiet strength.

I used to like Marge Helgenberger a lot on CSI, but I think a lot of that had to do with her chemistry with William Peterson. She didn’t click as well with other members of the cast.

Overall, I find good actors and actresses fun to watch at all times, it’s just that it’s so rare on TV. Great actors will always find their way into films.

Amy Farrah Fowler on Big Bang Theory. I don’t know if I’d want her as my SO, but I’d definitely like to buy her a cup of coffee sometime.

She sure as hell deserves somebody better than Sheldon as a boyfriend!

I play for the home team, so speak, but Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson) makes me more than just a little weak in the knees! Then again, Stabler (Chris Meloni) did, too.

The various L&O frachises had some AWESOME actors over the years. Dann Florek (Captain Cragen on SVU thru Season 15 and on the original L&O before that) is another one of the characters that I really liked. He was such a genuinely good guy. The same is true of Richard Belzer, who played Detective John Munch (and still pops up on SVU from time to time).

I was also a big fan of ADA Alexandra Cabot (Stephanie March) and enjoyed seeing her reappear in some later episodes. The original L&O had greats like Jerry Orbach, Sam Waterston and S. Epatha Merkerson. And the best of all, two words- Angie Harmon!

I had the pleasure of meeting Marg Helgenberger back in 2010. She was the ‘emcee’ at a 5k Run/Walk for Breast Cancer in Los Angeles that I participated in. I was actually in LA visiting my cousin who was undergoing treatment for Inflammatory Breast Cancer at the time. My cousin’s husband grew up in the television industry and has always worked on tv shows. His grandfather (who has a star on the Walk of Fame) and his father were both producers and directors of many different shows over the years). Because of his position in the industry, he knew some of Helgenberger’s people and we were able to meet her. She was a sweetheart!

CSI is another franchise that has been very fortunate to land some great talent, David Caruso notwithstanding! =)

I was a big fan of CSI:Miami and really enjoyed most of the characters other than Horatio. Calleigh Duquesne (Emily Procter, who could stretch the word “and” out to five or six syllables), Natalia Boa Vista, Jesse Cardoza (maybe it was just looking at him that was fun) and Eric Delko were all great.

I didn’t care for CSI:NY for a lon g time, but when Sela Ward (who I’ve always loved) joined for seasons 7-9, I had to watch. Gary Sinise is far more tolerable than Horatio Caine, if not much more animated or emotive.

Very true! If there was just a Christine Baranski channel running 24 hours a day, I’d be a very happy man! =)

All I remember her ever saying was “Oh, wait!” ad infinitum. :smack:

Non-sexual crush? Tons. Mostly Liz Lemon. I loves me some Lemon-ade.

Dunno if everyone knows this story…in the following clip Tina Fey does that bit from a fake Cristopher Cross song…so
“Criss Chross” made an entire song based on Tina’s 4 second bit…It’s actually quite good! and sent it to NBC…where it sat around for months til someone discovered it.

I don’t know if I’d want to have sex with him, but I think Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock is just brilliant. I mean, the sex would no doubt be terrible, if he was even willing to do it, but brainy has always been sexy for me.

And I am currently watching this show called Death in Paradise. The guy is just the most horrible example of a Brit ever. Constantly complains about the sun and the waves, hates that he’s in the Caribbean, wants nothing more than to go back to his pub, wears an ill-fitting three piece suit AT ALL TIMES, etc. But his crime-solving skills are stellar! I think he’s great.

Two words: Gregory House.

Actually, two more words: Walter White. But it that case it’s complicated. Very, very, very, extremely complicated. (Why are you looking at me like that? I said that it’s complicated.)

If I can go off road a bit and do a movie example: Eli from Let the Right One In. In that case it’s non-sexual basically by default, as she is a twelve year old, ageless (yes, I know, it’s complicated) serial murdering vampire. And I’m a perv in some respects, but fuck, I have limits. I do love that character, though.

The same can be said for Hit-Girl in Kick-Ass. Ten years old, cute as button, and so very much a psycho killer. Again, nothing sexual about it. But she’s adorable.

Dear God. I just realized that I’m a sick, sick, sick puppy. I should probably seek help.

Peggy Bundy…the banter would have been awesome.

I have a thing for Bryan Cranston, too. He’s fantastic in any part. Gene Hackman, too. Too bad he’s retired now.

Bryan Cranston does nothing for me. It’s all Walt, in my case.

Actually, Bryan Cranston doesn’t even look like Walt. He doesn’t sound like him. It’s a bit eerie. Walt is his own person. Maybe that is part of why Walt seems so more real to me than most TV characters. But I guess that I should save that for the BB threads.

I think I’d have to include most of the characters from Firefly, except Inara. (No interest in her sexually either. She’s the Deanna Troi of Firefly, as far as I’m concerned.) And River would have to be cured, since I wouldn’t want her accidentally killing me. Flaws and quirks and all, they’re just people that I’d like to get to know.

Fred from ANGEL. Amy Acker is gorgeous, but the character’s sweetness, charm, brains, and trauma tripped my big brother instincts, not my horn dog instincts.

Her character on PERSON OF INTEREST, on the other hand …

She’s past the adorable stage now but 1980’s Yeardly Smith was beyond adorable. Loved her in The Legend of Billy Jean. No one else could come close to her southern accent except for maybe Jan Hooks. Which would be another lady that qualifies for attractive in a non sexual way.

Ditto for Nancy Cartwright. And Tracey Ullman.

So she’s now beyond beyond adorable? I can go along with that.

She totally tripped my horn dog instincts, at least after she came out of her crazy room and started to be normal. Fred normal, anyway.

Illyria on the other hand…

While there are men on Primeval I found physically attractive, James Lester wasn’t one of them. I adored him anyway, though. He always got 1/2 the best lines every episode.

Female characters fall into this category for me too, of course. Agents Scully & Reyes. Audrey Parker. Dr. Zoey Hart. Joey Potter. Morgan Brody. Wendy Beauchamp.

Alex Dunphy from Modern Family. I love her snark. And the occasional flashes of vulnerability. Doesn’t hurt that she’s played by Ariel Winter, who is, IMHO, quite a talented young actress. Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), from the same show, is another one who I find very appealing.

Also, Sue Heck from The Middle. Pretty much the definition of “adorkable”. She’s just so damn sweet! Eden Sher is another actress from whom I expect great things in the future.

Don’t know if Outlander counts, but if so…holy God, Graham McTavish. When he’s on screen, you cannot look away.
