I can’t decide if awards show like this are nostalgic or depressing. I love seeing the casts of Bob Newhart, Carol Burnett, etc., reunited, but it’s depressing to see how damned old the men are and how unnaturally wrinkle free the women are. I’ll never understand the popularity of the Smothers Brothers as I’ve seen their act on 8,000 shows and it’s always exactly the same.
But, the highlights:
The Classic TV Desperate Housewives had its moments (and gave Abe Vigoda a job in primetime for the first time in 20 years)
Seeing Charles Lane again was great. Not only does he still look the same (old [though at 100 he looks no older than he did at 70], bald, hawk nose) as he has for 50 something years, he apparently still has his faculties (“I’m still available if anybody wants to hire me!”).
