I had this idea for a tv series. I don’t know what exactly you could class it as. It can become almost anything, comedy, drama, action, etc. Maybe that is “anthology” series.
The show title is “The Fourth Wall.”
The concept is: Exactly what the title implies. Some average guy gets sucked into his tv set (by means yet undetermined) and ventures through all kinds of different shows and situations by travelling through the fourth wall. His objective is to get back to the real world. Only HE knows about the fourth wall, which is, to us, the part of all tv show sets that is never seen by the camera. (Like the apts. in Friends. Do we ever see the 4th wall? No.) Because this guy is from the “outside” he is the only guy who has the knowledge of and ability to pass through the fourth wall. To all the characters in the tv world, this barrier is impassable, and unknown. Bad guys might try to capture him to invent a way for themselves to pass through if they find out. Everything that happens in the tv world, happens for real there, as it is a parallel universe. If you get shot, you bleed, you die, etc. He could theoretically get back to the real world by exiting from a live broadcast, but this would only be temporary because, even live broadcasts end. His time would be limited in such a situation. Oops the superbowl just ended zap, he gets sucked back to tv land. The only permanent way out, is the same way he initially got sucked in, period. The reason he cant stay in the real world via exiting live shows, is because when he got sucked in, his matter was converted into a transmission, albeit, digital, airwave, satellite, etc. I know there holes in the science of this, but it is just for fun and fantasy, not reality.
(By the way, what happens to him when the show changes to commercials? Hmmm that could be very interesting to explore)
I know similar concepts have been used before such as in movies: Last Action Hero, Stay Tuned, Matrix, and the tv series Harsh Realm. But none have ever really utilized the concept to it’s full potential, and have not been the best. Matrix was pretty cool though. I think it sounds fun. Sort of a Quantum Leap/Sliders type of thing. Something different every week.
