TV Shows Only You Remember

I remember that one. Also a young Vera Farmiga as one of the first Christians in Britain, and the Black Power Ranger as…all I remember about his character is that he rode a bull in one scene, for some reason.

The “Roar” in the title, by the way, was some sort of weird pseudo-druidical version of The Force, or The Quickening from The Highlander. The main character had some sort of mystical ability to hear the Roar, which allowed him to commune with the life and energy of Britain. Or something.

The Spear of Longinus came in by way of Longinus, the actual centurion, who was cursed with eternal life and some kind of magical leprosy, and was searching in Britain for the Spear, so he could end his curse. He was, I think, the main villain of the series. He was also trying to destroy the Druids, and persecuting Christians.

I still remember the radio ads that played in my market advertising it. “It’s like Hercules meets Xena by way of Medieval Times!” Which…I mean, Hercules and Xena are literally the same show (Xena first appeared as a one-off character in an episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, then got spun off into her own series). And Roar wasn’t medieval. So…

Does anyone remember ‘Dream On’? It had quite a cast, Brian Benben played a guy whose inner thoughts were illustrated with very brief film clips from old movies inserted. (like when two women he was dating were going to arrive at the same time, there would be a quick shot of an old-fashioned train wreck). I try to describe it to people, and no one knows what I’m talking about.

Yeah. I remember that one - HBOs first original content I think

Previous mention

Yes, I have commented previously, forgot I did… Michael McKean (Chuck on ‘Better Call Saul’ and many other things) was the boss at the office. Denny Dillon, the snotty secretary, was fabulous!

“Not in the castle!” That’s about all I remember apart from it being generally rife with anachronisms (unsurprisingly).

The mention of Covington Cross reminded me of this flash in the pan. I remember Fabares trying to bring cheer and life to a mad scientist’s castle and thought it could have gone somewhere, but fate had other plans.

Anyone remember Oliver Beene? It was one of the many shows Fox tried out in the time slot after The Simpsons in the early 2000s, after they canceled Family Guy. It was set in the early 1960s and had kind of a Wonder Years meets Malcolm in the Middle vibe. I actually kind of liked it, and was disappointed when Fox canceled it after just two seasons.

Yeah, I saw a few episodes of that - I liked Grant Shaun as the father, and some of the gags were pretty funny (one kid in school was called “Nickname” because he was good at coming up with names for other kids)

There was also a show called Freddy’s Nightmare which was an anthology of stories hosted by Freddy Krueger.

Excellent show. Salma Hayek appeared in Dream On before she became well known.

Does anyone remember The Net, on the USA Network shown on late Sunday nights around 1999? It was based on the Sandra Bullock movie of the same name, but with Brooke Langton playing Angela Bennett. I thought the show was excellent and the villain group (Computer terrorists known as the Praetorians, led by Trelawney, played by Joseph Bottoms) were an intriguing adversary for Angela. In one of the last episodes, Dwayne Johnson guest starred. I think it was the first show or film he ever appeared in, outside of wrestling.

Thanks for that - I remember that series (and the fact that each episode had two stories) but had totally forgotten that it wasn’t "Tales from the Crypt "

Well, it’s been 672 posts and no one has mentioned “Son of the Beach”, a fairly lame Baywatch spoof.
(or maybe someone did- I did a search, but didn’t read all the posts)

I watched aforementioned shows like The Charmings, Wizards & Warriors, Better Off Ted.

Did anyone mention Oops! the post-apocalyptic Gilligan’s Island that aired after Herman’s Head in the early Fox days?

I’m not sure if it really qualifies as its own show, but I’ll only associate Jason Priestley with Teen Angel, shown as part of the All-New Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney Channel. He’s the ghost of a 1950’s teen tragedy song who has to help people to get into heaven. The halfway to heaven helper was common circa 1989.

And soaking of The Disney Channel, two shows I watched a lot as a kid were Welcome to Pooh Corner and Dumbo’s Circus were 80s era live- action costumed shows that are not only obscure, but also mostly lost.

I remember Son of the Beach because Howard Stern was involved and he wouldn’t stop plugging it at the time.

Woops was a staple for me while it was on.

God, Fox went through a lot of sitcoms, didn’t they? Flying Blind, Ned & Stacy, Open House.

I’m sure I’m forgetting a few.

It wasn’t on long enough to be a staple. More like a paper clip.

Other short-lived series I enjoyed include Powerless - a series about life in a universe with superheroes, but focusing on the non-supers and “Baby Blues” (based on the comic strip) (come to think of it, anyone else remember the “Dilbert” cartoon?).

There was also an animated TV series based on the comic “For Better Or For Worse” that I vaguely remember.
