TV Shows that apparently, you're the only person ever to watch

No you’re not, I remember both of these. Now I have the Villa Allegre theme in my head too, thankyouverymuch.

Lalalalalala laaa Villa Allegre!

I don’t think this qualifies as obscure – there are enough fans of this series out there who’d jump on a GAH appreciation thread. The show ran for three seasons, with an attempted pilot for a sequel, The Greatest American Heroine (Ralph reveals his identity to the world, the aliens make everyone forget and tells Ralph to pick a successor, Ralph gives the suit to an idealistic liberal schoolteacher, she butts heads with Robert Culp’s character…).

Got that as my cell phone ringer right now.

It’s a great show from Aaron Sorkin, now available on DVD. But there’s no way Dan and Casey were “soinlove.” They’re both hetero sports casters, and besides, everyone (especially Natalie) kept telling Casey he was in love with Dana.

You’re kidding, right? Three seasons? I sooo missed a lot of them, then.

I remember, but wasn’t it called The Rise, Fall, and Rise Again of Reginald Perri? In DFW it played on the PBS channel (13) in a block of British shows I think Friday or Saturday evening. I think the shows were Benny Hill, Monty Pythons Flying Circus, the Two Ronnies and thenReginald Perrin.

Bigfoot and Wildboy - late 70’s Saturday morning show

Voyagers - show where a time traveler and a stowaway he accidentally picked up travel through time using an ‘Omni’, I believe, to make sure history occurs the way it is supposed to.

Although that would make sense, it was in fact simply called The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perring. God I loved those BBC block nights.

Ahhh, there’s ways around the Dana situation. Sport Night was extremely popular with the slash crowd due to Dan and Casey’s close relationship. You can watch it on a couple of different levels…

Misfits of Science!!! God, Courtney Cox was sooo hot then. I remember ‘Switch’ with Robert Conrad as a con man swindling crooks. It seemed to fit after ‘It Takes A Thief’.

I remember a show called ‘The Stutz Bearcats’, a western with an old car instead of horses.

I remember an early 80s one (title missing) where the widower father with two children hires a goofy(but cute) witch as a nanny. Can’t think of her name, but she’s definately a Central Casting regular.

I remember GIGANTOR, where the kid with the remote control box was constantly beating up the North Korea…errr…Ping-Pangians with his Giant robot.

I remember a space show where 3 people living in an agricultural society open a doorway by mistake & find their entire world has been put aboard a giant super-ship…but that a meteor destroyed the bridge, killing all the command crew and the super ship was slowly heading towards a comet

I remember a cartoon that was Pre- Fractured Fairy Tails that was in black-and white. It had Col. Bleep, a robot cowboy named Squeek, and a caveman called Scratch…all in a place called ‘Zero-Zero-Island’

I remember lusting after the girl in ‘Eight Is Enough’ who later got the dancing part in ‘1941’.

Please tell me you are kidding. Dan had a thing for the INCREDIBLY hot Rebecca (Teri Polo) and she was definitely starting to get a warm fuzzy feeling for Dan. Who’d want another man when you could cuddle up next to her?

I remember watching a bunch of these…*Big Blue Marble, Villa Allegre, Nowhere Man, Brisco County, Gigglesnort Hotel, Jennifer Slept Here, Herman’s Head (hearing Lisa Simpson’s voice saying she wanted sex with Herman was weird).

Here’s mine: Three pretty good action shows that didn’t last long: Stingray, Viper, The Highwayman.

A whodunit/mystery of the week: F/X: the Series.

And a sit-com: Soul Man. Dan Aykroyd as a motorcycle-riding Episcopal priest, sort of an American Vicar of Dibley with the genders switched.

Do not click here. You have been warned.

Bastard!!

I cannot believe that this show was on for 4 seasons.
And interesting notes on Voyagers:

a. the star, Jon-Erik Hexum, later accidentally shot and killed himself on the set of his next show, Cover Up

b. The actor who played the boy, Meeno Peluce, is in fact the real-life half-brother of Soliel Moon Frye, who played Punky Brewster. Go figure.

Well, if you’re writing about that situation, it’s obvious that Rebecca’s just gonna dump him, Dan will be crushed and, of course, turn to his good friend Casey for consolation. If this distresses you, don’t go anywhere near the Sports Night FanFiction Archive.

But this site has a collection of scripts written by fans for a virtual third season. (and is totally het, I haven’t read them so I don’t know what happens with Rebecca).

… and the ship contained many different “worlds”, long cut off from each other. You might think a science-fiction series starring that guy from 2001 and created by Harlan Ellison would be pretty cool. Watching a few episodes of “The Starlost”, however, should change your mind. The premise was intriguing, the execution was terrible. Still might make a decent movie or miniseries.

According to slashers, just about every fictional character is gay. Signs of affection toward one another? Homoeroticism! Open hostility? Overcompensation! Cold indifference? Denial!

The unsuccessful U.S. remake was called “Reggie”. Empty Nester Richard Mulligan played the title character.

I loved Brisco County Jr. Very campy.

Anyone remember a short lived series called Raven? Had Lee Majors as a side kick?

The Brendan Leonard Show, anyone? It ran on ABC Family all last summer. It was sketch comedy, written, performed, and filmed by Brendan Leonard and his friends. I loved it, because it was exactly like what my friends and I do when we hang out together.

Sitting Ducks is one of my favorite shows.

Damn, I’ve seen a lot of these.

I remember one episode in Nurses where the neighbor in Empty Nest, Charlie, was an orderly. The line I remember: “According to this toe tag, it’s time for my nap.” Shoulda known it was an Empty Nest spinoff. Also, there was a really, really hot Asian nurse.

Jem: I remember it, and promptly changing the channel as soon as it came on; for it was a “girly” cartoon. I also seem to remember a line of Jem toys being hawked.

Out of this World: I don’t know if this has been pointed out (and I’m quite drunk at the moment), but the crystal thing was actually the girl’s father. She had the ability to freeze time, but only in the room she was currently in. I remember one episode where she used her ability outside, and everybody in the city was frozen. She could also un-freeze people frozen in time by touching them.

Small Wonder: Yet another crappy Fox sitcom, in the tradition of Charles in Charge.

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.: I remember seeing a show or two of this. From what I saw, it was pretty good.

The Edge: I mentioned it first, but I remember two recurring sketches: “Cracklin’ Crotch”, and “Right This Minute”.

Conan the Adventurer: Frankly, all I remember of it is a snatch or two from the opening theme.

Herman’s Head: Again, only an episode or two. It seemed pretty good, tho.

Same here, for exactly the same reasons. It was on immediately after G.I. Joe or some other macho beat-em-up cartoon, and it was my signal to turn off the TV and get ready for school.

As for my nominations…

Stark Raving Mad: Starred Tony Shalhoub as a crazy writer and Neil Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser!) as his publisher or something. The show was hilarious, but sadly lasted only one season.

M.A.N.T.I.S.: A wheelchair-bound scientist creates a mechanical suit that lets him walk and everything, and he used it to fight crime. A really good show, I thought, but it seemed to have died off early. My friend is the only other person I know who watched it.

Ultraman: A Japanese show, kind of like Godzilla meets Captain Planet. This guy would don a super-suit, grow huge, and become Ultraman and go fight the latest giant monster to plague civilization. The monsters were always polluting in some way, and pollution was Ultraman’s weakness. There was a video game (SNES) based on it, but I still don’t know anyone who remembers this show.

Sir Dirx: As I recall, Ultraman came on right before Mr. Bogus. Also, I remember MANTIS on the Sci-Fi Channel, but I also think it was just a half-step above Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers on the suck scale.

During a conversation about bad 80’s sitcoms, I once made the mistake of mentioning The Hogan Family and expecting anyone to know what the hell I was talking about.
