TV shows you like, I which you dislike one character/actor

IMDB shows him w/ a total of 6 acting credits. After DVDS ended in 66, he was justifiably (acting) jobless until 93.

I liked How I Met Your Mother but it wasn’t long before I started to kind of not like Lily, played by Allyson Hannigan. As the series went on, I couldn’t stand her. Her stuffed up nose voice really sets off my misophonia .

As some here know, I was / am a huge Friends fan. When the series first ran, the Ross and Rachel storyline was always my least favorite. Didn’t really like the characters separately or as a couple. Today, while I still enjoy most of the reruns, I find I detest Rachel, especially once she got pregnant. I think maybe I’ve just come to dislike Jennifer Aniston.

In the last season of Adam 12 they brought in the Actress Known For Playing That Awful Helen Crump for Pete’s serious gf. I never figured “I play the field” Pete would actually desire such a … matronly woman.

In answer to the OP, Brenda Leigh Johnson. She’s a totally awful person. While she’s a good “closer” any part of the story that deals with her personal life makes me seethe.

Second to her is late-Closer/all Major Crimes Rusty.

I started out that way with Deborah but I have to say she grew on me a lot and when the series really started to dive, she was the only reason I was watching. All the fun has been sucked out of her in the 2nd series though…

I always hated Lucky (Luann’s boyfriend) on King of the Hill despite being a big Tom Petty fan.

My dad would always, always pipe up about how much he disliked Floyd the barber when watching Andy Griffith.

As for Leon on Curb Your Enthusiasm, he’s one of my favorites, even more now that Funkhouser’s gone. Part of what makes him essential is that he’s the guy Larry relies on for advice, especially romantic advice, which usually boils down to “You gotta hit that thing!”

Wasn’t the hugest Lost in Space fan, but Dr. Smith…manoman, he didn’t help matters.
Yeah I get it he was a foil for conflict so scripts could get written, but still, I wouldn’t have had any problem if a scriptwriter decided to have him swalled up by some ameboid goo monster or something.

It’s weird, because I wonder how the talented actors and other folk feel about working with one clunker.

I play a lot of bluegrass music. I’m no pro, but I have some skin in the narrow area I stake out. Most of the folk I play with have some serious chops. Not infrequently, someone will join our jams who is - um - just not that good. Beginners are no problem. The worst is the folk who think they are better than they are, and don’t have the good manners to stay in the background.

Just can’t imagine what it would be like for pros, trying to ply their craft at a high level, having to work w/ a stiff.

I never much liked Amy Farrah Fowler on The Big Bang Theory, and my dislike was ramped up after finding out that the actress who portrays her, Mayim Bialik, is a clueless antivaxer and has a new role as a supplement shill.

For me, it was the Ainsley character in The West Wing.

Oh, and I had to google Helen Crump. I never watched that show, because Andy Griffith makes my skin crawl.

I agree profoundly with all of these choices so far. How could showrunners/directors/fellow actors not notice these annoying performances?

Saw an old thread right here where someone made a comment that he loved Major Crimes, except for Rusty… and then said he’d keep watching and just wait til Rusty wasn’t part of the storyline. SORRY, BUB!

.

Hey, he shouldn’t have dissed the first gay character on TV!
(Hmmm, how did your dad feel about ‘Floyds’ in real life?)

.

Waaal, ah do declare, ah’m reckonin’ y’all are jes’ a weeee bit jealous, an’ wantin’ thet sheriff all t’ yerslves…

Bob’s Burgers Gene sucks ass. He yells everything he says and nothing he says is funny. Not ever.

Odd, she’s one of my favorite recurring characters in any show, period.

Floyd was gay? Okay, maybe but his main personality trait was a low-key futziness that was meant to be funny but maybe didn’t wear so well over time, at least my dad thought so. I doubt Floyd’s open to interpretation sexuality had any part of it.

Funny… I was going to say the same show, but with President Roslin substituted in. Not because of any issue with Mary McDonnell’s acting (she’s quite good), but rather that I just never liked the character, and by extension all the political nonsense that went on in the first few seasons. I felt like all the political maneuvering just detracted from the main story- it was absurd in the face of the Cylon threat, but everybody made out like it was important.

Yeah - that’s an interesting, but somewhat different discussion. Where an actor is very effective at portraying a character you really dislike…

I quite enjoyed The Andy Griffith Show, but two characters were annoying as could be: the barber and Aunt Bee. What made Aunt Bee annoying was that talentless hack who played her and said hack’s horrendous voice. Floyd’s voice also was annoying as were his mannerisms which can best be described as “barbering while on drugs”.

p.s. Evidently the hack was a loathsome person on set too and called up Andy Griffith shortly before her death to apologize for that.

Well, what do I know? I saw that they are doing a Bosch spinoff. I looked it up, and it focusses on 3 characters: Bosch, the lawyer Honey Chandler, and BOSCH’S DAUGHTER who is now a cop!

Good lord! Don’t think I will be able to even hate watch this. I’d really appreciate it if anyone could watch a random ep of Bosch and tell me what I am missing WRT this actor. Wondering if she appeals to a younger audience or something - but I’ve seen any number of younger actors - including in this series - who can act rings around her.

I agree w/ Mean Mr. Mustard:

OMG yes Rusty!

Someone here once posted a theory that “Major Crimes” was told from Rusty’s POV, which is the reason that a lot of the police work makes absolutely no sense. I read that post to my wife, who was a huge fan of both The Closer and Major Crimes, and her reaction was about the same as if I had told her that yes, those pants really do make your ass look fat.

For me it’s the character over the actress. In my memory, she’s not anywhere as annoying in the books. In Bosch, frankly she’s Rusty.

Chandler was murdered in her first novel appearance (IIRC). One of the many pointless deviations from the source material. I wish they’d kept that part - not a fan of the character.

They’ve got like what? 300 novels* to choose from, and the first season combines about 2 1/2 novels into one. And they still make changes.

*and I own them all.
