TV themes sung by the cast

Kimballkid, I think you were whooshed.

You’re in the wrong thread.

:smack:

On the Disney Jr cartoon, “Sofia the First,” the character of Sofia is voiced by Modern Family actress Ariel Winter and she also sings the theme song (in character).

Do we really have to limit ourselves to sung themes? Because there are probably at least a few instrumental themes which are performed by cast members. One that comes to mind is the theme to Bottom, which is a cover of the Mar-Keys’ “Last Night” by Adrian Edmondson’s band, The Bum Notes.

I think this is pretty common with children’s animated series. Some examples from the 1980s:

Perhaps the live-action series The Hilarious House of Frightenstein also counts – the opening used a monologue rather than a song, but it was spoken by cast member Vincent Price.

Seems appropriate for me to link this NSFW Robot Chicken clip.

I’m horrified that no one has mentioned “Holiday Rock”, the theme tune from Hi-De-Hi, which was sung by Paul Shane. The 1980s was an embarrassment of riches, really, it had The Durutti Column and Hi-De-Hi.

“It ran for nine series between 1980 and 1988, won a Bafta for best comedy series and, at its peak, drew a weekly audience of 17 million viewers” apparently. I remember it as one of those shows that lots of people watched despite it not being funny at all, e.g. To the Manor Born, May to December and indeed Last of the Summer Wine.

But studio musicians + David Cassidy sung all the Partridge Family music, so, I’d say it counts. By the same token, Scooby-doo sorta counts, because I thinks we’re supposed to think it’s the kids singing the theme-- it’s also them (we’re supposed to think) singing the songs during the montages.

Also,* The Gene Autry Show*, and The Roy Rogers Show, if those count. And Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood.

I think the actor who played the oldest son sang the theme to Eight is Enough, and Della Reese sung the theme to that awful angel show she was on, which I, through circs beyond my control, I watched way more episodes of than any human should have to tolerate.

Yeah, it was the same with Jem—the characters’ regular voice actors didn’t sing, but the same singers who sang the title theme sang the in-show tunes from Jem and the Holograms (and probably also those of their rivals, the Misfits).
