The Taco Bell thread has a side-discussion going on, on textured vegetable protein (TVP).
Now, you all know that I like eating animal corpses. Yummy. But I’ll also eat TVP. I like fake meats, vegetarian Italian sausages, and even soy-extended ground beef in certain applications. It’s not a health thing, or an ethical thing; I just like fake meats from time to time.
Last year I saved up some okara after making a few quarts of soy milk. I mixed it with ground beef as an experiment. I’m too lazy to find the thread, but the results were suboptimal. I finally used the mixture for ‘chili’, and it wasn’t bad.
Someone in the other thread mentioned that the cost of TVP was a bit too high. I’d have to go back to see if that was for TVP or a meat-analogue made with it. One thing about okara; it’s cheap. You make your soy milk from soy beans (which are cheap), and the okara is free. I just have to experiment with it some more.
