Hopefully someone else saw this, as it is in very limited release.
If you haven’t seen this film, look away now, as I am asking a question about events that happened at the end of the movie.
Actually, I missed the very beginning of the film, and while I don’t believe it affected the events at the end, I’ll start by asking how the couple’s presence in California is set up (I came in as they were walking towards the windmill farm after a train goes by).
My question: is there any real justification of the brutal attack upon David at the end of the film? I saw one instance of “local rednecks” yelling at him to “get off their street” earlier, but was this somehow indicated in some more personal way against this guy? And who were those guys in the white truck? Had we seen any of them before?
As long as I am asking questions: Why did the one guy rape David… was he gay? Did he somehow mean to really humiliate him for some reason? And why did the other two guys not rape Katia? Especially after ripping her dress off? Or did they, and I just missed it (and she was really calm about it afterwards)?
Was there any thing that set up David’s nutso act at the very end? Was this just brutal and horrific out of the blue for shock value, or was there some rational explanation for this stuff?
