Twitter finally locks Trump out

I think Twitter is doing it backwards.

They are very reluctant to block any world leaders, it is their official policy not to do so and it took a lot for them to bend the rules to block Trump.

I think they should block all world leaders, specifically because they shouldn’t be opening themselves up as a medium for transmitting state orders and propaganda. This experience with Trump should convince them to stay out of that area.

I think it’s the responsible thing for private businesses to do, and I’m glad to see them doing it.
I’m a liberal that embraces properly regulated free market capitalism, largely because of moments like this.

Even as I acknowledge on some level that they are acting on the knowledge that all out civil war will be really bad for their stock values.

ETA - the idea that Twitter is “silencing” Trump is hysterical. No one has a “right” to be the loudest voice in the room.

"Bang! Zoom! To the moon, USA, to the moon!!!

I don’t recall if this has been covered upthread. Parler has now been kicked off AWS’s servers and is now offline. WaPo reports Parler is suing:

I can’t wait to see the reasoning:

“A private company MUST give me a platform to host insurrectionists who are plotting crimes against elected representatives! It’s in the constitution somewhere!”

I hope they get Rudy to represent them.

“Everyone knows I already went to the moon. So nice. My rocket was the best rocket. So big. So very fast. Everybody thinks it was the greatest rocket ever”

I should have added this from the WaPo article:

According to the transcript of Trump’s speech on January 6, he spoke for 73 minutes, so he can go on for quite a while if he wants. Of course, it could be argued that he was off the rails the whole time, but he is capable of speaking for long periods of time.

Soon releasing my moon exploration Plan, will be tremendous! Huge win for our Great Nation over orbit manipulators China. More to come in Two weeks!

Words come out of his mouth-hole. I would not dignify it with the term “speaking”

As a professional blowhard, Trump can bloviate practically forever. The issue is the “staying on the rails” part. On the very rare occasions when he’s forcibly constrained to being rational, he immediately falls into a hostage-video monotone, develops a deer-in-the-headlights look, and starts sniffing. As we saw just a few days ago when he pretended to “condemn” the insurrection that he created.

Why isn’t Trump just posting his Twitter-style screeds to a White House website? Most people know it’s whitehouse.gov, so if he were front and center on that page, everyone would soon figure out where to look. They could allow comments to give him the feedback he craves.

I don’t see how that could be stopped… unless it’s outsourced web hosting, or if all the DNS servers removed it or something?

I think pretty much every other mode of communication is moderated to an extent by relatively sane whitehouse staffers. Twitter was the only way that Trump was able to bypass his handlers and spew the nutty shit that we saw regularly.

If he tries to post insane gibberish on the whitehouse.gov site, he needs someone to actually do it (he has no clue), and they would simply stall him until he sees a hamberder or something across the room.

Trump: “You there, staffer peon, post this message comparing Rosie O’Donnell to a hippo. I want it up there pronto!!!”

Staffer: “Sorry sir, but the token ring has fallen out of the website, and we’re looking everywhere for it. We’ll get on that as soon as possible.”

Trump: “Grumble grumble… do it as soon as … oh look, hamberders!” (wanders off)

There are some cases where I think Trump might stomp ass in a courtroom, like say he was going after a grandma who couldn’t make her rent payment.
There are other cases where the old insane bastard simply doesn’t even know what he’s talking about. What his case is about. How he’s been wronged.
This is the latter, hit em with your best shot, Donnie!! Loser.

Somehow I think that the Amazon Army of lawyers will probably pretty effectively defeat whatever passes for the same at Parler.

The best strategy would be to go for all kinds of discovery. Amazon could bankrupt the assholes in lawyers bills in just a few months time.

Furthermore, he won’t have access to that website in just over a week. He could have posted on Twitter forever if he hadn’t plotted a rebellion.

Rudy, Rudy, WE WANT RUDY in the courtroom!

YouTube suspends Trump’s channel, citing a violation of their rules about videos that incite violence. It’s a 7 day suspension, not a permanent ban.
