Two Firefox 1.5.8 questions

I switched from Netscape 7.1 to Firefox 1.5 very recently. I chose to go with 1.5 because I don’t want to have to keep an eye constantly out for what new hacks I have to worry about.

I solved one of the first problems I was having with a search here (SDMB is one of the best resources on the web, if you’re a member and can search the archives, and are able to formulate the search right). But I’ve got two questions I’m not having much luck with.

First, the one that happened a few minutes ago. The background is red in the URL window for the page I opened a little while ago. I’m familiar with the yellow background now; I think it’s the neatest way I’ve seen of reassuring the user that it’s a secure link. So, what does the red mean? This is in my very own site, where the URL window should be yellow. I’ve got two Amazon book links in the page. Could that be the reason? I checked it, and there’s no indication it’s been hacked. My imagination is coming up empty for other explanations or reasons. There are some other links as well, including one that opens a video automatically. Could that be the reason that the “secure” lock is busted in the URL window?

Second, I downloaded and installed the spell checker from the Mozilla site, but it doesn’t seem to be working. It has yet to work for me. It tells me that there are no errors in a block of text even though I know there are typos in it. Am I doing something wrong? If so, what?

TIA for help.

For your spell checker, did you restart Firefox before using it?

You also have to download a dictionary to have it work on 1.5.

Lots of good info:

Yes, several times since I downloaded/installed it.

I’ve tried it repeatedly.

I would seriously consider installing Firefox 2 as it addresses some weaknesses that 1.5 doesn’t, the spellchecker works a treat.
As for the red navigation bar, I have only seen it a couple of times while logging in to a secure site, but before the login sequence was complete.
