Two Florida boys risked their lives to rescue two babies from a neighbor’s fiery mobile home Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Isiah Francis, 10, and Jeremiah Grimes, 11, were playing in Oakland when they saw the fire raging and ran over to help, WFTV reported. They said they knew that children lived there.

They found the homeowner outside pouring water on the fire and, following Isiah’s dream to be a firefighter, they barged inside, “I was really scared because I thought I was going to get burned,” Isiah said. “I was nervous because there was so much smoke it was hard for me to see.”

The boys tucked a 1-year-old and an 8-month-old under their arms and ran outside.

Why didn’t the homeowner/father go inside to get his own kids, if the 10 year old could do it? And there were two other children who are listed in stable, but critical condition.

But good on the boy for putting his fear aside. I am very afraid of fire myself.

It seems like the homeowner wasn’t very forthcoming about how many kids he had in that house. I don’t know if he was covering up something (illegal immigrants) or not. Doesn’t really matter what their status is. Anybody caught in a house fire need help.

I hate to admit it. I’m not sure if I would have gone into that house. One lungful of those hot fumes and you’re going down. It would be an agonizing choice to decide whether to run in there. Its astonishing that 2 young kids were willing to do it.

It might have been that they didn’t realize how dangerous it was.

Regardless, unless the fire has been exaggerated (I’ve read the linked articles but not watched the videos), it’s a stupendously brave act for boys of that age.
