Two lifers today.

I went birding today and I saw two all new birds! :D:D:D:D:D That brings my lifelist up to—

Okay, so I’m not keeping track. But it’s probably around 75. :D:D:D

Today’s two lifers:

Far-out, Wood Thrush! It’s such a high to see a new species (and love those gnatcatchers). I saw my first Painted Bunting down in Florida this last February (1 male and 4 females) and it was so thrilling.

I see you’re in New Jersey. Have you been to the Kuser Natural Area in High Point State Park? There are loads of your namesake and warblers abound, including Blackburnian. Also good is the Hutchinson Forest (a “primordial” forest stewarded by Rutgers) located in Somerset County. Where are some of your favorite birding sites? (I’m partial to Brigantine and Cape May.)

Again, congrats!

You guys have all the luck.

I think I spotted an oriole in a field near my sister-in-law’s house once. I have never seen a bluebird, and it’s sort of a goal to see one before I die. (I’m not kidding.)

When we moved back to Iowa from Seattle, bird-watching got results. (Seagulls and pigeons are okay, but boring after a while.)

My first spring back, I spotted 21 different birds (not all at the same time though, they weren’t “of a feather” and all that) in the bushes outside the kitchen window. That included two doves “doing it.” That was kinda shocking, actually.

I like the sparrows and grackles as much as the more glamorous bluejays and cardinals. Birds are cool.

AuntiePam, you’re probably going to have to pursue bluebirds actively. Depending on that type of habitat you’re house is situated in, they may not come to you. Ask around about a “bluebird trail.”

brachyrhyncos. I haven’t taken enough excursions to have developed favorites. I bird mostly in the Green Acres near my street. Once I get my driver’s liscence, however, things will change.
