Developing story as of 6:45pm California time, but right now it doesn’t sound good. The Wikipedia editors are fighting back and forth between listing him as dead or alive.
Meanwhile the Dopers are fighting about which thread to post in. This one here, or this other one:

I flagged it for merging
Heartbreaking if this is confirmed, a great TV and film actor, writer, and director. His dad, Carl, almost made it to 99.
Well fuck, I sure hope it isn’t so.
Cue gloating, if that was him.
It’s so awful. Even if it isn’t them, still horrible
A Hollywood legend.
If it’s him I hope it was peaceful. And for his wife.
Regardless of who it is, I hope it’s something noncriminal, like carbon monoxide.
This has been a horrible few days for news.
Rob Reiner, master director, always said that when he died, the headlines would read: “Meathead dead …”
I wait to see tomorrow’s headlines. From playing Myrna’s boyfriend on the Odd Couple to Mike Stivic on All in the Family and then directing some of the greatest movies ever made. Rob Reiner has always been a big part of my entertainment life.
Yesterday celebrating Dick Van Dyke, the connection to Rob Reiner via Carl is strong. Sad.
After Rob Reiner’s frequent appearances as an outspoken panelist on Real Time with Bill Maher, I almost feel as if I knew him, his legendary film accomplishments aside. The deceased haven’t been positively identified yet but but it sure sounds like it was Rob and his wife. What a tragedy and what a great loss. And what the hell happened?
Carbon Monoxide poisoning?
Sounds very much like it is them, but hope it isn’t.
That’s what everyone said when Gene Hackman and his wife died.
Gosh, and I just saw in today’s TV listings that “Spinal Tap II” was going to air on HBO Max, which I don’t get, this evening.
TMZ is saying it is them and that they had knife wounds.
Dear gawd what a tragedy. Stabbed to death.
Not sure the stabbing is confirmed, just that it is them.
ABC 7 in LA is saying that this is a murder investigation.
What an amazing run with only one dud.
This Is Spinal Tap: (1984)
The Sure Thing: (1985)
Stand by Me: (1986)
The Princess Bride: (1987)
When Harry Met Sally… (1989)
Misery: (1990)
A Few Good Men: (1992)
North: (1994)
The American President: (1995)
Ghosts of Mississippi: (1996)
Like many of us here Spinal Tap was super popular and Princess Bride is one of favorite, I would say thatcone went to 11.
Stand by Me is perfect, Misery great and A Few Good Men did something incredible and got great acting out of Tom Cruise and Demi Moore and gave Jack one of his most iconic scenes, which is really saying something.
Oh crap, a murder?
This link said “injuries consistent with knife wounds.” Yeah, I know it’s TMZ, but they’re pretty reliable with celebrity news.
I’m also hearing chatter about the most likely suspect, but I’ll hold off on saying who it is until it’s confirmed, one way or another.
