Two people found dead at Rob Reiner's home. (Sadly confirmed it was Rob and his wife.)

Or for some even younger, the first thing that they might think about is the South Park episode where he was satirized as an anti-smoking activist who had a problem with gluttony. That’s the first thing that popped into my head, and I’m 48.

More lazy than too soon IMO.

You made two tasteless jokes today, the other one in the Bodi Beach massacre thread IIRC. I think you have have reached your quota.

(for the decade)

My one upthread here is certainly tasteless and unoriginal. No dispute there.

I thought the other one (Bondi) wasn’t disrespectful and was at least a smidgen creative.

I’ve been so sad since last night. Reading people’s funny stories about him as a person, as an actor, as a filmmaker. It’s so awful and their poor daughters.

Since we tend to be More Old here than other places, a lot of the young ‘uns know him best as Jess’s father on New Girl. My teen has seen so many of his movies, but if she saw him she’d call him Jess’s dad or the guy from The Bear

Christmas? Aren’t they Jewish?

ABC Nightly News reports the daughter found her parents.

Would that be Tracy? She had an acting career. League of Their Own, When Harry Met Sally are two I remember.

According to his Wikipedia article, Rob had identified as Athiest with Buddhist leanings in his later years. Also, Rob and Nick got into an argument at a Christmas party hosted by Conan O’Brien before the attack.

They were secular Jews (both Carl and Rob were atheists) and apparently were fine with doing the Christmas thing as a cultural holiday.

Rob is responsible for some of my all time favorite movies. We watched Princess Bride so many times. The whole family could quote almost the whole thing. It took me months to convince the guys to watch it because they didn’t want to watch a love story. They were delighted when they finally gave in.

Stand by me was just magical. And A Few Good Men was wonderful cinema.

The man was an artist through and through.

In the short interview I watched of his son, it seemed obvious that Nick was off in some way. He came across as sort of awkward and angry or something. But of course I’m watching it knowing that he did a terrible thing.

I wish this had not happened. He deserved better than this bad ending.
May they rest in peace.

Just to ask, was Carl’s reaction notably progressive for the era? You hear so much about sexism in those days, it made me wonder if the average American dad then would have been as vehement.

I expect that if nothing else, a 12-year-old would have been disciplined for disrespecting an adult like that.

Point taken.

This whole case is so surreal. I wonder if Andy Richter is the State’s first witness at the murder trial (who would be on that guest list??)

Stand By Me is in my top 5 favorite movies. Magical is a great description.

I keep thinking about the shouting matches between Archie Bunker and Meathead.

It’s so sad that Rob had to live with similar conflict in his own home.

There was a security guard, but that was for intruders trying to get in.

Another point of discord may have been that All in the Family stood in the way of The Mary Tyler Moore Show being CBS’s top program for half a decade.

Romy, the daughter of Rob and Michele, is the one who found them. She is 28. They also had another son, Jake. Nick is the middle one.

Tracy is Penny Marshall’s daughter from a previous marriage. Rob adopted her while married to Penny.

Does this remind anyone of how Phil Hartman died - killed by a family member during an argument? Not a complete parallel but yet another family tragedy.

Something I didn’t realize until just now was that Rob and Michele co-founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which fought for marriage equality in California.
