…discounted 15%!!
Dagnabit!!
Not a Pit rant because… it’s not quite worthy. Anyway:
I order a guitar amplifier by phone, quote my credit card number, mailing details, oh and my email address so they can send me any promotions etc etc.
$1500 (Aus) poorer, I sit and wait, counting the days, imagine exactly where the truck would be on its 4 day journey from Adelaide to Darwin. Picture the workers unloading my precious package and placing it into the really-cool-stuff-that-must-be-despatched-ASAP area of the depot. I calculate that it may arrive today, tomorrow or maybe later depending on how much other really-cool-stuff-that-must-be-dispatched-ASAP they have to transport. Hopefully today!
Well, it hasn’t arrived yet. But what has arrived is a nice email informing me that if I would care to purchase any of the <amplifier company>'s products over the next week I will pay the factory direct price less 15% because they have kindly decided to have a stock clearance sale!
Why do these things happen to me!?
15% is quite a discount. We’re talking a reasonable sum, a sum that should be very easy to calculate because $1500 is a nice round number and 10% is always easy to work out and 5% is just another half of that again. Lots of money anyway. At least $200.
Ahhh, I could have been eating meat tonight…
Have you contacted the retailer about obtaining the discount? My wife and I regularly take receipts to stores and obtain the sales prices. Most stores will honor the sale price if the item was bought within 7 days of the item going on sale.
Ain’t it ALWAYS the way…I purchased my first computer as a package (cost $3500) way back when, and two lousy weeks later, my best friend decided to buy the EXACT same one at the same store, and it was only $3000.
Another month after that and they were down to $2000…Pentium 2’s just came out and superceded it.
Best not to check out the catalogues after you’ve bought something I’ve found…you will always be disappointed.
No I haven’t, but it might be worth a try eh? Time to compose an email I think.
I go computer-price-blind after buying one. They’re so quick to go from best-thing-on-the-block to obsolete.
Well, I have politiely requested the discount. Fingers crossed!
I sympathise with your situation. I have requested a rebate under similar circumstances, and have received them. Best of luck.
Darwin, huh? I lived in OZ when Tracy hit. Unbelievable. I wonder if the board in general knows how isolated you are. Maybe a thread about how far away you are from the nearest doper might be cool. I have a sister who lives in Jakarta, I wonder if that is closer than most of your countrymen?
End hijack
<Continuing the hijack>
I wouldn’t be suprised if your sister is a relatively close neighbour. It is generally a lot cheaper to go on holiday to Indonesia (e.g. Bali) than it is to go to Sydney, Brisbane, or Cairns.
So I got my response today. No they can’t backdate the discount for me , apparently they didn’t even know back then that they were having the sale, amp company sprang it on them. What they have done though, is send me a 15% discount voucher valid for a year. This probably works out as good as, or better because I was intending getting something else from them anyway.
Amp arrived yesterday, woohooo!! Kicks arse!

P.S. I’m about to push the submit button… again :o
