U2 - Songs of Experience

U2 is finally releasing its somewhat delayed continuation/sequel to Songs of Innocence. I did not grow up a fan of U2, but have really come around to them over the past 5 or so years. I was a fan of Songs of Innocence, considering it their best album since Achtung Baby.

They obviously peaked in mid-80’s and very early 90’s, but I do not think they got lazy or apathetic. I think it is just hard putting together War - Achtung Baby kind of streaks for anyone.

Anyway, I thought I’d create a thread for discussion of their latest album.

I gave up on them after Pop. Glad to hear that they’ve struck another vein. I’ll give it a listen.

The Fugs have already done Blake (and brilliantly):

Perhaps Mr. Hewson could find some other poet to pick on.

Early pre-release reviews say it is pretty good. A few songs are popping up early on youtube, too, if you want to sneak a peak.

It is good, though I think it did not make a strong first impression on me. I think it works a lot better as a whole album than it does as singles.

It’s a pretty impressive accomplishment. I like a couple songs on Innocence more, but this album is…well, kind of more *experienced *and developed. I think this sounds like more of a full project than the last album, which I really only had a couple neat singles and the rest was inadequate.

Anyway, it is out now(a few days here) and is well worth the purchase.

I assume that’s why the were on SNL last week?
