I was glad to see Nick Diaz come back and finally win again. His last few fights look horrible on paper, but if you watch them they were all actually razor-thin. I hope he’s back for more soon.
I wish Griffin Vs. Bonnar was a little closer. I think I like them equally but I was almost leaning towards wanting Bonnar to win just to guarantee a 3rd fight. Oh well, I think we’ll see it anyway.
Cheick Congo looked great. If Jeff Monson doesn’t wipe out Fat Walrus maybe this guy can do it. Someone sure needs to.
The Main Event: One of the announcers (I can’t remember which one) said it best: Chuck is a counter fighter and if you come at him with guns blazing like Babalu did tonight he’s going to catch you.
I felt bad for Wes Combs in the undercard. I don’t really know anything about the guy but he looked horribly sad to lose.
Fights I’m looking forward to:
GSP Vs. . . . Oh wait, nevermind . Penn does not deserve a title shot IMO. They should have rescheduled GSP/Hughes II instead of cancelling it. They have plenty of other talent that could have headlined in November. For instance, Arlovski Vs. Anyone (Frank Mir?) so he can start working his way back to another title shot (or is he still suspended?)
Anderson Silva Vs. Rich Franklin. Both incredibly dominant fighters. I’m not ruling Silva out but I believe Franklin is the best in the world at 185 and probably will be for awhile. Then again, anything can happen in this sport, that’s what makes it exciting.
Ortiz/Shamrock III. I’d like to see Ken win this one. Before the last fight I said I didn’t care who won as long as it was close because I like them both. It was not close at all.
Sorry, you couldn’t have gotten me to pay for that card if I’d gotten a guaranteed rebate delivered by Rachelle Leah herself.
Liddell’s win was not a surprise. Sobral’s a great submission fighter, but his striking is not particularly strong and in a brawl with a good striker, he’s gonna get knocked out.
Griffin-Bonnar was sort of interesting, but I think they waited too long to do it.
Honestly, I was more interested in the last Fight Night card. The Sanchez-Parisyan fight was a lot more intriguing (and Diego Sanchez clearly won that fight.)
I’m disappointed that Liddell-Silva won’t happen now, and I’m wondering if they’ll keep saving Liddell-Ortiz for Super Bowl Weekend. They don’t have many more marquee matchups (Hughes-St. Pierre would have been one, Hughes-Penn is one, and Franklin’s return is the other) and there are still several cards between now and February.
I’m a UFC fan, but 40 clams is too much for me to pay to watch it. I’m just a free Fight Night bottom feeder. I did check the results of 62 afterwards though.
See, that was precisely it. $40 for that card is not worth it. For $40, I want at least two high-profile matchups and a solid undercard.
I’m curious to see how giving Ortiz-Shamrock III away free works out. I have to imagine the Fertittas are writing big checks to both fighters, since their deals are based on a percentage of PPV buys.
It was better than “Bitter Rivals” by leaps and bounds.
This fight had the return of Nick Diaz, a look at rising star Cheick Kongo, a brawl between friendly rivals Griffin and Bonnar, and Babalu wrestling with Big John McCarthy.
Bitter rivals had . . . an early stoppage and a really boring boxing match.
