UFC 68 from Columbus, OH

I was pulling for Randy and I thought he had a shot, but not the upper hand; I would have called it about 60% to 40% for Sylvia. I was very pleasantly surprised. He looked great, really avoided strikes well. Babalu’s loss surprised and disappointed me, too. I like Franklin and was glad to see him looking more like the Franklin we know.

What really pissed me off, though, was the crowd booing the Hughes/Lytle fight. Lytle was a huge underdog and fought a close fight against one of the toughest fighters in the UFC for what could have been the fight that knocked him out of the league. He fought a great fight and had nothing to be ashamed of. Booing fans always piss me off. Get your beered-up out of shape ass out there and try it and tell me if you feel like booing!

I agree. Booing is almost never called for. The only cases I can think of are Sylvia/Monson when BJM had to stop them in the 5th round and say something like “Remember guys, you’re in a fight here” and one other heavyweight snoozefest - I think it was Gabriel Gonzaga Vs. Kevin Jordan but it’s hard to recall because it put me so quickly and soundly to sleep. Even in those cases I probably would not personally boo but I can understand other people doing it.

I think booing should be reserved for things like extremely bad judges or ref decisions and egregiously poor sportsmanship (such as Saturday night when the Walrus said, “I thought I could fight with an injury but I guess I couldn’t.”)

Booing is one of the problems I have with UFC and hence why I don’t watch it generally. I haven’t seen all of Pride/K1 matches, but the ones I’ve seen there is no booing (I’m sure someone will prove me wrong however). In a recent K1 GP match a fighter almost fell out of the ring and was pulled back in by his rival. The crowd applauded. Of course, there’s not much UFC can do about the behavior.

Japanese fans generally do not boo. Booing can be heard when the Pride events take place in the US, though.
