Ugly People in "Beautifl" Roles

I can’t remember if it matters in the movie, but the book states that she is the most beautiful girl in the world, and that’s the reason Humperdink wants to marry her.

re: why beautiful people marry ‘ugly’ people.-- Not everybody is shallow or hung up on looks.

All those young girls cruising the “How to be an Anorexic” sites need to see this. It’s too bad that so many women don’t realize that guys have different tastes just like women do.

It’s not so much that there’s not enough attractive women in movies as there’s not enough women that weigh more than 90lbs, attractive or not. But that’s a soapbox I usually only get on when around my “fat”, dieting needlessly friends.

They’d better not read the rest of the thread, though. I don’t think girls who already have poor self-images need to hear that even if they looked like Liv Tyler or young Robin Wright they’d still be too ugly for it to be plausible that others would find them attractive.

I can agree that Hollywood starlets tend to be underweight; I’d personally find many of them much more attractive if they gained a little weight. Of course, treating thin women as hideous freaks would be just as bad as doing the same to larger women, but it would be nice if there were a greater variety of body types represented in films – especially when it comes to casting “beauty” roles.

To the original topic, I say Jennifer “Love” Hewitt, in “The Audrey Hepburn Story”. Admittedly most of us a proberly bias, but Audrey was suppose to be one of the most beautiful women ever (and I think she was), but Ms Love doesn’t hold a candle to her.

It’s too bad Garafolo’s personality sucks. Just goes to show you what happens when an attractive girl dresses in unflatering, baggy clothes and walks around with a chip on her shoulder.

Uma doesn’t really do much for me either but I can understand people who don’t think Robin Wright Penn is hot.

Jennifer Love Hewitt is like “drunk chick hot” not movie superstar hot. She’s tiny, thin, with a not completely unattractive face. The kind of girl you might hit on at a frat party. Not the kind of girl who should carry a movie with her hotness.

After reading the OP I thought of She-Devil, which is about a water buffalo of a wife who gets dumped by her husband for a another woman. She-Devil goes around seducing men and women to get back at her husband. I don’t know who played her originally, but there was a movie based on it that starred Roseanne Barr.

Excuse me, I think Rosie was kinda fetchin’!

Then again, I think the same about Ellen DeGeneris.

And I’ve been smitted by three women who either were or became lesbians.

Yep, I’m a woman in a man’s body & she’s gay.

Sorry for the hijack- I’m gonna go off & cry now.

The Life and Loves of a She-Devil, from the Fay Weldon novel, starring Julie T. Wallace as “Ruth”, the ugly wife. Abso-frikkin-brilliant TV 1986 mini-series that I saw on A&E back when it was good. The Rosanne Barr abomination only told half the story. Damn thing’s not even available on video or DVD anymore.

The thing I hate about the way people criticize this movie is the apparent belief that building up Janeane Garofalo has to mean tearing down Uma Thurman.

They’re very different-looking women, I’ll grant. But I think Janeane and Uma are both beautiful and desirable.
