Uh...what dinosaur sounds like "seraphophus"?

One of my students (age five) has high functioning autism. Because we want to encourage spontanious language, if he makes a request (within reason) we usually grant it. On Thursday he asked me to draw a T-rex for him. Which I did. Then a long neck, then a stegosaurus, then a triceratops… finally he asked for this one, and I have no idea what it is (and I have a feeling the name he gave is an aproximation.) I asked him to describe it, but unfortunately he couldn’t, and instead asked repeatedly for me to draw it in various colors. Finally he gave up, and decided to draw one himself, but his pictures don’t look like anything yet. Someone please help me figure out what it is  Maybe someone who has " How Dinosaurs say good night" by Jane Yolen could peek in it and see if its in there? I know he was looking at the poster we have in the classroom when he started asking for the pictures, and from what I recall of the story there are more dinosaurs in it than in this picture. When he asks again, I’d like to be able to draw something that will be close enough to make him happy.

If you’re looking for dinosaur sounds, the CD-ROM game CARNIVORES is exquisite. It’s a hunting game, much like one of those DEER HUNTER games, except you hunt dinosaurs. What’s interesting, is that they give you “calls”, like duck calls, only the game’s designers interpret how each dinosaurs would sound. It’s quite a striking nuance, really.

In CARNIVORES 1 (there are now three games in the franchise), You can see and hear Tricerotops, Velociraptors, T-Rex, Stegosaurus, Parasaupholous, Allosaurus, and a few others.

If you choose hunting mode, the T-Rex and Allosaurus and Velociraptors charge you when they see you and make disturbing crunching noises while they eat you.

But,
It also gives the option of putting you in “Observer” mode. This way, the dinosaurs don’t see you, so you can walk amongst them in this invisible mode. This might be the best for an autistic child, as it is more like a nature show.

I just bought CARNIVORES 2 in the last week, and it is a really beautiful game, much like the first one. And since I picked it up in the discount bin, I would assume you could buy either 1 or 2 for 10 bucks or less. Hope this helps.

That may be the sweetest thing I’ve heard all month.

How about Ceratosaurus? The Nat |

or

How about SAUROLOPHUS? Saurolophus- Enchanted Learning Software

Those look pretty close to me.

Probably Parasaurolophus(par-ah-sawr-OL-o-fus). It’s a pretty popular one.

Here’s a a picture: http://flood.nhm.ac.uk/cgi-bin/dino/detail.dsml?Genus=Parasaurolophus

The second one of mine’s closer… in fact yours means “like saurolophus” :D:p:p:p:D

Whammo, I think you might be right about your second one there. It has that “f” sound at the end…I’ll give that one a shot if he asks. Thanks a bunch!

Look Whammo, you may be technically closer to what elfkin477 asked in the OP, but I’ve got an inside edge: my 4 year old son. He is the one who told me parasauralaphus. I’ve since asked him about saurolophus, and he doesn’t know that one. Since the real subject at hand is the knowledgebase of elfkin477’s five year old friend I suspect I’ve got you.
