I’m ready to make the plunge. BT is too expensive for DSL. Is Tesco Broadband any good? I really like their fruit and veg but does that qualify them for internet service?
Well, if this is the right page, they’re staggeringly expensive. The cheapest package is £13.67 for a 512k connection. Their fastest ‘we can provide on your line’ speed is £24.44. Looking at the small print, it seems like the operative bit is ‘we can provide’ as the speed is only 2mbs. These are so unlike Tesco that I feel I must have missed something.
The best price that I have come across from a company that seems to have a reasonable reputation is from Plusnet; depending on where you live it is either £5.99 or £11.99, up to 8mbs speed.
Almost anyone can beat Tesco, as far as I can see.
Do you have or want a phone or a TV? Get it all in, it’s cheaper. I’ve had Sky and Virgin and would say go for Virgin - better value, better service, more reliable. That “finest” price on the page NineToTheSky linked to is more than I was paying in my previous flat for TV, landline and internet put together with Virgin. It’s still more than I’m paying for Sky TV, internet and phone, though for Sky you also need a BT landline (I don’t know why though I’m sure someone will tell me), which bumps up the price.
Thanks for the tips. I’ll look further. In my village, I don’t have much choice, just DSL and not very fast, either.
