UK General Election May 2015 (Population Share Version)

Morning rolls.

A Bloomberg Politics interview about the election - and how Cameron might still pull it out: http://www.aol.com/article/2015/05/07/voters-flock-to-the-polls-in-britains-knife-edge-election/21180684/?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl5|sec1_lnk2%26pLid%3D113623782

No chance. Wishful thinking from Bloombergs.

Barm cakes.

Thanks everybody. There’s a local election here, but I’d be amazed if more than a tiny fraction of those not eligible to vote in the General bother to vote in that. The amount of foreign students and EU workers here probably reduces the absolute number of voters, but hopefully not the turnout, for the General Election at least.

I actually really like morning rolls. Or at least, the fake colonialist imperialist imitations we get down here

Voted. I’ve been unsure the entire period and was still pondering until I put pencil to paper. But it’s done

No votes as yet for the batch, bap, or bun parties. Are these terms losing their grip in former northern strongholds?

[edit] Wait a minute, **Amanset **did vote Batch, in capital letters no less. Off to revise my projections.

Follow-up: if you have Sirius/XM Radio (or one of those cable companies where you can connect the cable to the FM antenna input on your radio or stereo receiver), BBC World Service will have ongoing coverage starting at 6:05 Eastern, except for a 5-minute general news break at the top of each hour.

Of course, if you want to limit it to the commentary that matters, just keep refreshing this thread every few minutes.

I’m now stocked up for tonight: sparkling wine, tea, snacks, tea, soda, tea, bacon, and tea. I’ve just got to stay awake.

The election appears to be so finely balanced that very small localised swings could tip it markedly one way or the other.

I’m considering a nap shortly after the exit polling at 10, and get up again about 1. Problem is I’ve had about ten cups of tea today, so I’m pretty wired. If I want to sleep then I’ll have to open the beer now…

well, that’s my vote cast. Nice to see a healthy queue. Whatever Govt we get Id rather it be one chosen by a high percentage turnout

And voted. The SNP’s “Designated Intimidator” turned out to be a 20-something bloke with a foam thumbs-up hand.

If I turn on CSPAN (which will be carrying one of the British networks, I’ve heard) about midnight British time, will enough results be coming through by then for it to be worth the watching?

There will only be a handful of declarations before about 2am, when the pace starts to pick up.

The Press Association have a list of expected declaration times here:

http://election.pressassociation.com/Declaration_times/general_2015_by_time.php

There’s be exit polls just after 10pm, though.

There might be a few results in by then - I’d imagine there will be a lot of declarations between about 1am and 3am.

C-SPAN is supposed to be simulcasting the ITV broadcast. I think you can get the Sky News broadcast online. (You can also get the BBC broadcast if you have the BBC World News channel.)

Here’s an estimate of how many will be announced in each half-hour block, according to the Huffington Post (all times Eastern):
Before 8 PM: 4

11:30 - Midnight: 65 (467)
Midnight - 12:30: 96 (563)
12:30 - 1: 12 (575)
