UK magazine stands: no politics or science?

I was only thinking of larger corner shops, petrol stations etc, that have a wide selection of magazines.
I wasn’t thinking it’s strange that you don’t see science magazines everywhere.

Never heard of that before. Is it a well-regarded magazine? Well-written? Does it lean one way or the other ideologically? What is its tone, would you say, all in all?

My observation is that whenever I’m in an airport or train station in continental Europe, Germany or somewhere like that, I do notice how highbrow some of the magazines are. They’ll often have several chess periodicals, magazines about philosophy, and so on (alongside all the usual fare). Not that you can’t get magazines like that in the UK, but probably not in the newsagent at Birmingham New Street.

In my experience, Scientific American (at the least) is on the magazine rack in most decent sized supermarkets in the USA. Also news magazines such as Newsweek.
