UK Minimum Holiday

I am in need of advice.

I need to know what the minimum holiday entitlement is for UK resisdents.

I live and work in london full time.

I currently get 21 days (have done for 3 years) But we must take 3 days at christmas, as the whole industry is closed.
My opinion is that the industry is closed and its not my fault. I am willing to work between xmas and new year as my partner does and I end up at my parents watching rubbish TV.

We are a relatively small company with no HR dept. so its hard to as general questions without ‘rocking the boat’.

I have heard that in 2009 the minimum goes up to 28 days + bank holidays.

Does anyone know the truth? Any sites?

Thanks in advance!

AFAIK (my wife works in HR), it’s 20 days’ paid leave per annum for a full-time employee, and the company can tell you when to take 'em. Also you can only carry 5 days over to the next year.

Not quite: currently the minimum is 20 days, which includes the normal 8 statutory days. This is increasing in two tranches - to 24 days 1st October 2007, and to 28 days 1st October 2008 (both inclusive of the stat holidays).

This seems a pretty good precis of the rules that will apply to part-time workers etc.

I’m pretty sure you’re right, but it goes up to 24 days in october 2007 and then 28 days in october 2008. That’s in addition to the 8 bank holidays.
Edited to correct date (april 2009 - > october 2008)

No, those entitlements include the eight statutory holidays.

I have shown this to someone in the office and the response has been bad.

Apparantly the 18 days I get + 8 bank holidays + 3 days Xmas = 29 days

So no extra.

does the 28 days include the bank holidays?

I’m afraid so. The thing with the three days at Xmas is between you and your employer unfortunately. One of my mates works for a company that shuts for a fortnight over Xmas and New Year, which is less than ideal.
