Don’t feel too bad about “Stupid Cupid,” London . . . I got “Young Love” by Tab Hunter!
I didn’t even know Tab Hunter ever made a record, let alone a No. 1!

IIRC…
“Since you’ve been gone…
All that’s left is a Band of Gold;
All that’s left of the dreams I hold
Is a Band of Gold…
And that night…on our honeymoon,
We stayed…in sep’rate rooms”
da da la la …something.
:makes feeble motion towards the Geritol:
ulp
…old
Shadowfox and fierra, “Band of Gold” is a GREAT song! Belinda Carlisle covered it on her first album as well, and did a pretty fair job.
As for me, I cannot believe that, in the country that gave us the Beatles, the #1 song on Nov. 27, 1969 was “Sugar, Sugar,” by the Archies.
I have it better than my sister, though. On March 14, 1967, it was “Please Release Me” by Engelbert Humperdinck, which, IIRC, is the single that kept “Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane” from topping the charts.
Cumber, if you dont know that one, you must be young. I’d understand if you said the Supremes original version, but Phil? were you born in 1985 btw?

Erm, 17/3/73: Cum on Feel the Noize by Slade. Either they were No1 for ages, or I’m similar in age to Coldfire’s GF.
Strawberry Fields/Penny lane sold just under twice what Englebert sold.
Back in those days a Double a side was regarded as 2 seperate singles.
It would also have been the beatles 13th No. 1 in a row.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Westlife.
You’re a full week older than my girl, Dylan
Which means that those talentless bastards topped the charts for TWO weeks! Damn!
I’m 17 (so born 1983). And not much of a music person, so I fully expected to have never heard of whatever my song was.
P.S. I’m a dragon, not a cucumber. Maybe I should make that my sig.
It’s All in The Game by Tommy Edwards.
Never heard of it!
My son’s is No Limit by 2unlimited.
hate to scare you Coldy, but I think that was no one for a good bit longer than 2 weeks!
(4 actually… scary. I really need to stop looking up these things…)
A Whiter Shade Of Pale by Procul Harem was the topper on my b’day in the summer of 1967.
“Mack the Knife” by Bobby Darin
::snaps fingers::
“Band of Gold”…I love this song!
November 19, 1968. “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” by Hugh Montenegro and his Orchestra. I’m not sure how to take that
However, that one is Eastwood at his coolest–much more badassed than Dirty Harry.
August 17, 1971:
“Get It On,” T. Rex!
Woo!
November 27, 1964 - “Baby Love” by the Supremes
Band of Gold by Freda Payne. Sounds vaguely familiar, but can’t really place (or hum) it.

Oh well, I’m still doing better than my sister. She had “Grandad” by Clive Dunn…I don’t think I could take the shame of that one.
Rysdad,

Howdy partner - do you remember black and white TV?!
Also, how about that poster Globe-trotter (says he’s old with a birthday of 1967) - hah! just a newbie .
So how do you find out how old someone is from their record?
I suspect London_Calling is our generation (from Connie Francis) but how do I prove it?
George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord.
So, if anyone out there was born the day that He’s so fine was #1, I apologize for plagarizing your birthday.
Summer Nights by John Travolta And Olivia Newton John.
I wonder what was top in the US?
