Mrs Aruns and I decided to look for a new home; we want to have a child some time in the future, and we’d like a bigger place than the tiny flat we live now. First thing I thought was to visit Craigslist, as I picked that up here on the Dope, but it doesn’t seem to be as popular here in North-Eastern England as it is in the US.
The locals would advise me to deal with estate agents, but to be honest with you I’d rather avoid it - my experiences with them have not been good. Another alternative could be to look on the website of the local newspapers for published ads, but it looks like the lettings agents dominate the market so much that most of the ads there are from them.
I had a good experience dealing directly with my current landlord, so I am hoping to find a similar situation again. Do you know of any UK-centric website where owners advertise directly their properties?
