UK's first gay marriages today. What negative consequences can we expect to see?

The UK’s first gay marriages took place today. Are any opponents of gay marriage willing to propose some objectively measurable negative (eg. rise in heterosexual divorce rate, or something) which they believe will be consequent of it?

If opposition to gay marriage is not irrational (ie. based on faith or arbitrary prejudice), then we have an opportunity here for opponents to suggest genuine reasons why it ought not be made equal to heterosexual marriage, and wait and see if those predictions are borne out from this day hence.

I, of course, can think of no such rationale, given that both my wife and I (married in a non-religious ceremony) and my friend and his wife (who cannot bear children) fall under the description “married”.

What, Nazis riding dinosaurs, and rivers of blood and lava aren’t objectively bad enough for you?

Expensive Court challenges?

The UK is doomed ! Doooomed !!

Or not.

Whom are you expecting to challenge what?

That’s strange. I thought it happened over a year ago. What’s going on here?

I should point out that it’s not marriage, just a “civil partnership”. Until that bridge is crossed by the legislature, the gay community will continue to campaign.

I think the ads sum up the process fairly succinctly:

Well, we’ve had real SSM in one state in the US for almost 2 years now. And except for the worst hurricane season in memory, God’s been pretty cool with it.

Forty years of darkness. Earthquakes, volcanoes…the dead rising from the grave…human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

And probably picketing by people who think the world is coming to an end.

One should note, none of those hurricanes came anywhere near Massachusetts, or, as I like to call it, New Sodom.

Be fair now, we got some pretty heavy rain one weekend.

Obvious proof, proof that God hates straights !

I’ve a question about. I’ve heard it refered toas a “civil union” or somesuch, instead of marriage. So, my question is : is it equivalent to a marriage (like in Spain, for instance) or is it some sort of union that doesn’t grant all the rights married people normally enjoy (like in France, for instance)?

Yes, I predict rain in the UK too during the coming months. If I’m right, it will prove God opposes gay marriage.

Aha! So that’s whose fault it is that the sun is setting before I leave work!

And it should be noted that the most damaging hurricane of that season hit a state whose voters had overwhelmingly voted to ban same-sex marriage the previous year.

It is a legal contract

Yep, the gobshites can be seen in the following link BBC NEWS | UK | Northern Ireland | 'Gay weddings' first for Belfast

Come on. We know that was Satan retaliating against the righteous!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Ahh, but Deuteronomy 1:17 clearly states that God will prevent rain from falling if He’s ticked off. So, if it does rain in the UK, then obviously God is OK with same-sex marriage.

Given that and the weather we’ve been having in the Bay Area this past weekend, it doesn’t seem that God has any problem with gays…

It seems the 2nd couple had a easier time that the first two women.

Hopefully it will soon just become a mundane and boring event to everybody apart from the couple and their friends and families.

I also look forward to the day when my government in the South will also recognise that discriminating against people because of their choice of partner is just wrong in this day and age.
